select the function you wish to reset and hold down the "return" arrow button on the left of the steering wheel. just like you would on the trip a and trip b odometer.

Must've been hammering on that car for awhile to have the average down that low. Maybe three tanks of gas ago I reset mine, and with mostly city/aggressive short highway bursts mine's still reading 28.4 average MPG.
Also, I believe the "miles to empty" menu gets it's info from the average mpg menu, so just reset it and drive normally for a few tanks, and check out your miles to empty when you go fill up. That'll give you a good idea how far you can realistically go on a full tank.

I drive 280km to work per day. I fill up every 2nd day. And reset my MPG indicator everytime I fillup. I get as low as 27 when i'm aggressive, and 30-31 normally. I could get upwards of 33, maybe a bit more but I tend to do 100-110kph all the way to work and don't wanna go down to 80kph and lose 15 minutes :P
