Need A Cheap System
Need A Cheap System
I am looking to put together a cheap system for a CarPC project I am working on. Car Audio is not my specialty so I figured I would check with you guys before I bought something that I shouldn't have. I want a decent sound out of it but I am not looking for a show quality sound system. I can build a computer with my eyes closed but when it comes to car audio I know nothing so any help will be greatly appreciated.
I require a 4 CH amplifier for my CarPC. I was looking at the Lanzar Maxpro MXA422 - http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LANZAR-MAXPR...lenotsupported
I was also looking at a pair of HIFONICS HFi12S4 which I can get for about $60 shipped for a pair.
Features:
* 2) 12” Single Voice Coil 4 Ohms HFi Series Subwoofers
* 1200 Watt Total Power Handling (600 Watt Each Sub)
* 600 Watt RMS Power Handling (300 Watts Each)
* Impedance: 4 ohms Each
* Injected Poly Light Rigid Cone
* 1" NBR Reinforced Rubber Surround
* Integrated One Piece Poly Cotton Spider
* Nickel Plated Push & Insert Speaker Terminals
* Poly Light Dust Cap
* Heat Dispersing Ported Back Plate
* Ultra Ridged Chrome Stamped Steel Basket
* High Strength ABS Motor Cover
* Large Air Cooled Magnet Assembly
* Sensitivity: 88 dB
* 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty
Are the amp and subs compatible?
Are the wattage or the two good enough so that I do not blow either one?
Is this a good setup? If not, can you guys recommend one that is under about $300 (must be a 4CH amp)?
Thanks for any and all the help you guys can offer.

Very intrigued about the Rockford Fosgate. Send me some more info on it if you will.
Everyone keeps telling me that I will have to use a 4CH amp for the CarPC but none of them can tell me why this is so. Again, I am not the best with Car Audio so I do not know if that is true or not but until I am told otherwise I have to assume it is.

i can get you the P4004 for 120 shipped
ya a car pc isnt really any diffrent from a normal cd player so i dont see why you would *need* a 4 channel. Ultimatly its by far the worst decision to do regarding bass. You want your subs to see a 1 channel mono signal regardless of the amp. So a mono amp or 2 channel bridged is the way to go. a 4 channel is just setting yourself up for issues in the future

What would be a good mono or 2 channel amp in my price range that will work with my speakers?
the biggest issue you will run into is your....SOUND CARD. in fact, it's one of the most important things to consider. you want a card that can provide adequate voltage out, without clipping so much on the high end. Check out mp3car.com's forums for info on cheap, good, sound cards for this use, like the old USB Audigy 2's(if i remember correct). So far my experience has shown me that while Creative Labs may own home audio, with higher end equipment especially you start noticing the shortcomings of their cards.
after that, sonicelectronix.com and get some hifonics amp's. good, and cheaper.
