New Project Audio Guys Help

So I have a project under way...well just in premeditated state, where I am thinking about everything before I move forward. I want to get rid of my stock head unit and replace it with a tablet. I will use the mini jack out put to dual RCA to feed to an amp input. I am looking at a four channel amp to feed the front and rear speakers, but the issue arises when I think about the tweeters and the stock sub.

Audio guys step in - I need to know my options for wiring up the tweeters and sub. The amp output will feed to a stock head unit wire harness so it will be an easy plug and play option, but I want to make sure I will not blow the tweeters out.

So please let me know if I should wire the tweeters another way such as a parallel wiring scheme to the front speakers. Also what kind of amp should I go with? Is a four channel good enough for this project or should I get a six channel? Or would a two channel be sufficient?

Please chime in and me nice!

if ur keeping the stock setup then u should utilize the stock amp. Stock amp input is 4 channel low level so a 2 channel mini jack out might work depending on the amperage output it has. might need a lil booster but maybe not.

you would need to put the stock amp on a switch and remember to turn it off every time BUT still way easier and better then working with an aftermarket amp

EmperorJJ1 has some good points. The stock amp is for sure something you should utilize. As all the necessary equipment is already hooked up correctly to it. Have you ever thought of an after market head unit that you can plug your tablet into? It may be way cheaper and easier to go about it that way because amps tend to go for higher prices and it would use your factory amp. I have a pioneer premier p510ub that i got new for just $180. and with the sound retriever turned on it sounds pretty damn good. My music plays out of my Ipod. All you need along with the aftermarket head unit is the install kit ($20), wiring harness($10) and the antenna adapter ($5)

Now if I were to do it your way, by completely bypassing the headunit. I think it would require a lot more than you think. Because Its not a good idea to run an amp on the factory wiring because it already has a factory amp (unless you bypass the factory amp completely, that would leave your tweeter and sub issue still open though). This would require you to rewire the car and plenty of other stuff to buy. (Cross-overs, wire, new components if you dont feel like cutting off your factory speaker harness, and possibly another amp).

I feel like an aftermarket head unit is the way to go for your case.

After talking with some guys that I work with (Bexel) an audio and video rental house (i focus on video and am weak in audio) they suggest something very similar. Either use a aftermarket head unit or use the stock head unit and just mount it somewhere else...the trunk or somewhere...it makes me think how much room is behind the stock head unit and if I can just move it back about 2-3inches...hahaha

I just want the tablet as a cheaper alternative to a headunit with the gps already built in and all the music at my finger tips.

Thanks for the suggestion!

no offence but the stock amp is meant to be ran at line level out. so while yes you can get an aftermarket HU or utilize the sock HU and just hide it untimely that's a unneeded part. Splicing a 3.5mm plug is bullshit but its honestly the best route to go with the tablet. And i hate to say it but custom fabbing a tablet into your dash probably wont be a cheaper alternative. unless you're talking about a 7" or smaller then you will have to relocate the HVAC. thats in addition to the fab work to get it to fit. charging cables and wires ect ect.

None taken! I have a 7" tablet it should actually fit perfect in the stock space, with no added din or bracket. I am running to home depot or somewhere tonight to get some sheet metal and brackets. With that I will mount the tablet to the sheet metal and use four L brackets to attach the sheetmetal to the the bolts and holes where the stock unit mounts.

I just checked out the space and I am definitely going to have to reposition the stock unit...possible in the trunk. Good thing I have access to tons of cable and butt connectors. This way I can extend the stock harness to the trunk and run a 1/8" cable to the HU. Then I'll have a right angle 1/8" connect to the tablet. For power I am just running a USB to cig lighter adapter which will be wired into an add a fuse. This way it charges when the car is on and won't kill the battery.

The biggest pain right now is running 20 + cables to the trunk for the 2 - wire harness going to the HU.

Thanks for the input!!

Why dont you go to radio shack buy a 3.5mm cable and cut one end off. wire that to the 4 speaker wires and plug that into the tablet and see how it sounds? if it sounds remotely good then leave it and dont worry about wiring the stock HU
