Noob Question About Tweeters

Ok first of all I don't really know a lot about car audio stuff so I hope someone can help me out and answer some questions for me.

1. What exactly do tweeters do?

2. Where is a good place to mount them (I was thinking next to the door handles or on the dash above the side window vents because I have manual mirrors so they can't go there)?

3. How do they get hooked up? (Do they get connected to the headunit or to the 6.5" door speakers)

4. Who makes good tweeters for a reasonable price?

I'm also gonna be getting a JVC headunit and Infinity Reference 6.5" and 6x9 speakers so I hope it will all sound good. I usually listen to rock and rap if that matters at all.

Thanks in advance for the help.

They will just give your highs, no bass minimal mids but a whole lot of highs=treble(check spelling)
2. Where is a good place to mount them (I was thinking next to the door handles or on the dash above the side window vents because I have manual mirrors so they can't go there)?Pillars are good because they work with the glass to not distort the sound. but what ever

3. How do they get hooked up? (Do they get connected to the headunit or to the 6.5" door speakers)Head unit can be done but not recommended unless you have a very good eq withamp to some bass. If you want to hook them up to some 6.5's you will need a corssover period if not its worthless

4. Who makes good tweeters for a reasonable price?look around can't give link

its best to buy the componet speakers as a set rather then mixing and matching. its because they are made to work together. If you have tweaters laying around and a cross over thats a different story if you want to save money.

Thanks for the answers so far they helped out but I got some more questions.

Does this look like a good component set http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2708

And where does the crossover get mounted at and what does it do?

Infinity is a decent company. I can't say I have had experiance with that model. I have used their kappa perfect models and they have worked fine for me. They are not too boomy...but you should watch the wattage that you give them.

The cross over is mounted in between the power source (amp or head unit) and the speakers. The crossover is used to filter out sounds that the speaker should not be producing. Like your tweeters don't want mids and bass going to them, and your 6.5 don't want low end sound going to them. The crossover has 2 inputs(+,-) and 4 outputs(+,- for tweeter and +,- for woofer) Hope that helps.

Their only getting whatever power the headunit gives them so that shouldn't be a problem.

So basically the wires go to the crossover first and then to the speaker and tweeter?

thats correct. the purpose of a crossover is to seperate the signal and output it to the appropriate sources. its basically an eq
