I have 2 12's and a Pioneer 800 watt amp Im my car, and I bought this set up for my Ranger then moved it into my 'Balt Ive always had problems with it getting warm but in the truck it was open to air in the cab. No its in the truck and there is no air flow, A/C or very much to keep it cool, and with Circuit City going out of Business and me loseing my warranty I dont want to over heat my amp and burn it up, what are some things I can do?

Go to a computer store and buy a couple case fans or..

80% sure its hooked up incorrectly... 2 reasons an amp should thermal/ have heat issues, Bad install or bad amp design. With the abundance of nasty Korean boards bad amp design is possible (plus even the best amp designers have a few issues with at least one random line of amp one year or something) but most of the time its the install. Does the amp get hot or actually thermal? Look at the old Rockford DSM amps. look like a grill and get hot enough to be one but never thermal. The amp design really effectively uses the heatsink and the parts stay relatively cool but keeps the amp itself "burning hot to touch"

 

your amp should go into protection if it gets too hot. S dont get to worried about burning it up. But your best bet is to ount some computer fans (12v) to the heatsink on the amp, like stated above. Also are you amps mounted to the seats or against something. If build an amp rack so its liftng off the ground more air will flow around it keeping it cooler.

 

It gets very hot to the touch, and I dont remember it ever getting that hot, it also sounds like its turning itself off for part of the song (No bass or only half of the bass notes) then starting again. It was installed by circuit city both times, so Im going to assume it was done right. Its mounted to the top of the box.....so if I made mounts that lifted it up off about 3 inches, and Directed CPU fans into the vent holes it would solve the problem?

when did u buy ur pionner, i used to use 2 of the 800W mono blocks. Never had a problem. and they were behind my seats up against a box...

 

I used to have two Sony amps and I ended up getting a radiator fan out of a Lincoln V8 to cool them

well that means your amp is actually going into thermal or protect at some point. You really shouldnt have the amp mounted on the box at all because if theres any flexing its not good on the components and normally shortens the life time of any amp. Since u said CC im going to assume its a prefab box and those really shouldnt have an amp on them. Mow last time i installed one of those pioneer nonsenses it got extremely hot but never thermaled... so you want to check the ohm of the final load to make sure its wired right. and check the settings... hows the gain and bass boost knobs set?

Very true. Things were worse last quarter. We just finished revamping our labor model and stock has been increasing since (slowly...lol). I've also been hearing that TVs is going to be commission pretty soon.

Bro, where I live, the only one around, w/o driving to pensacola, went outta business. And they told me that even the one in Pensacola is getting ready to bottom soon. Dude trust me, I dont want CC to go out. I has all my **** warrantied through them. Another problem, Last night the amp stoped working, No power going to it, I looked at all the wireing and it LOOKED good, Poisitve on Positive and Neg, on ground all good connections It appears good, I get in the car still not working, I pick my girl up, starts working outta no where....then about 10 mins later quit again....Im getting pissed about this thing and its problems.

check amp fuses and make sure your fuses are all the way in...carry a test light in your car and next time it cuts out check the powere going in an see if you getting power to it...if your fuses are in all the way an your getting power to it when it just clicks off then maybe your remote line is coming loose...if all are good then your amp is jacked

if your amp is getting hot to the touch then u need to through that bitch out before it burns your car to the ground a amp will never get that hot if it is working 100%

 

Well, I put a mulimeter and Found I was getting power into the amp, and tested ground....ops check good, then I tested the fuses and both were good, I called CC and they talked me through testing by bypassing the fuses and it turns out my AMP is FRIED, and Ive got to send it in to get repaired (****** circuit city) then when they tell me its friend the are going to send me the money for the AMP and Ive got to buy a new one....YAY 2 weeks or more with my subs. But Im haveing my eylids installed tommorow, my Remote reprogramed, oil changed, and a couple other things
