Question My Cobalt ss engine overheated ?? pliz help

hey you guy's i own a 2006 Cobalt SS {Supercharged}', Ahh last night i literally thought my engine overheated because i was capable of smelling something burning but i didn't see any smoke, but the engine was real hot, so i really got worried.. i left my car too cool down for about 1 hour til i began too check the coolant level's they where fine/ i checked coolant or any oil leaks {none}/' my temperature gauge light wasn't on, i checked the fan's and i saw that they weren't spinning so i thought that might of been it.. but the next day i turned my A/c on and the fans where working fine, so now i wasn't sure.. i took it to a shop the next day and they called me saying that everything was working fine' .. so did it overheat? and where was that smell coming from?'

Second button from bottom on left side of steering wheel. Push it until you see your engine temp.

^ Its an 06.

your temp gauge for the coolant is in the DIC. hit the "i" button a few times, its right after oil life. the "i" button is to the right of the steering wheel on teh Nickle trim piece

fans dont come on until like 220 something so you are fine unless you see like 230+

220! no they come on around 190. IIRC. if they came on at 22o they would never be on. I Believe the thermostat is 180* the fans would prob kick on around 190. if the car goes over 220 then i would worry. anything under that youre ok. 180-200 is perfectly normal during normal driving.

who knows what the smell was, if its gone then its not an issue anymore. if it comes back on then i would worry about it again, couldve been another car around you at the time.

220 with the air off isn't unusual. If you turn the air on the fans will run and bring it down from there.

If there's nothing wrong that you can tell with the drive-ability of the car, It could have been that a bit of something got onto the exhaust manifold. If it was a burning rubber/plastic smell, you may have picked up a piece of plastic bag from the road - or you may have had something under-hood contact the exhaust manifold. Look for nice little melted spots on your wiring looms and such, and look for melted patches of stuff on your exhaust.
