Pioneer or Valor
Pioneer or Valor
hello kind people, guess I have been getting my use out of you guys and the forum.
I'm looking at a AVIC-Z1 (now probably a Z2) and a Valor NVG-670WT, does anyone have experience with either of these?
I need Nav,
DVD
Bluetooth
and Double DIN
would like Hard drive based Nav,
DVD-MP3 capable
or Hard drive space for music.
Back Up camera capable
steering wheel remote hook up
xm (XM-Nav) hook up
Onstar interface (I think I need a Cell Phone hookup for this)
I think the Valor unit has it almost all built in, as the Pioneer unit I have to buy the Bluetooth adapter.

it looks like a decent product with a ton of built in options. As far as cost goes, I'm looking at about 1300 for the valor or 1500 for the Pioneer, and I still have to get the Bluetooth adapter for the Pioneer.
The Pioneed doesn't play MP3's on DVD, and has no built in Ipod interface...
edit, last i heard the valor units were selling well and working great from several of our distributors, and the valor has a Pioneer Screen.

Go with StreetDecks, I am not actually sure that this is out yet but I have read about it alot.
Here is a link to a video demo of it
Here is thier main site.

do not go with off brand headunits, i wouldnt even ever buy a dual or jensen. these products are cheap for a reason. they are sold at walmart and other places like that for a reason. nobody serious in the auto business wants them. get the pioneer x2
To me the screen shot of that valor looks cheap compared to my avic d1.I really like pioneer's navigation system it looks a lot better than a lot of them that I have seen so I have always gone with pioneer. You get what you pay for and while that valor may offer lots of built in features you cant say you arent sacraficing anything because I gurantee that you are. I'm going to be upgraging to a z1 eventually so I can get the new features and the bigger screen. Both the d1 that I have and that valor have a 6.5in screen the z1 has a 7in screen.(not that its a big difference) but to me the z1 is the only way to go if you are already going to be paying 1300 get something thats really worth the investiment but may cost you a little more.
I have never heard of the Valor system, so based on that I would be hesitant to buy it. Go with brands that have been known to be reliable, even if it costs more. I know that Pioneer Avic Z1 has really good reviews.
You may also want to look into the Kenwood DDX 6019 Double Din DVD player and Kenwood KNA G510 Navigation system which come in a combo. It's a little cheaper than the Pioneer Avic Z1. I have the player and will soon be adding the Navi to it. The player is really nice and will play almost any audio or video format. It also allows for a rear camera and bluetooth as well.
You can see it at this link. http://70.48.102.101/caraudio.html
Remember with names like Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine you can't go wrong.

IMO the screen on the Pioneer looks much more classier. I bought a Pioneer headunit for another car, & it worked great! No problems. I say go with name brands. It's like buying a Hyundai, Kia, or Suzuki...
yes the new avic-d3 plays dvd's. with aux. on the front display. u can change color of the buttons to match ur car. umm yeah its pretty sick. and only 1,000. pretty good deal. and im sure its the same bypass as the d2..then d2 is 1,500

yeah 6" is still a big screen for indash. its coming out spring 07 to retail stores. by then hmmmm. maybe ill get it. i wonder if it will be the same bypass as the d2. if it is..im gettin it no doubt.
I have looked at all of the other stuff that has been posted here and I still think that streetDeck's softwear package is more powerful than anything else that has been said. For those saying don't go with off brand names...I hope that is only talking about the Valor because streetdeck's and the vizualogic unit that it is made to run of is produced by Intel and mp3Car. Intel is the leader in home PC processor architecture, and thier vizualogic was named Best New Mobile Electronics Product at 2006 SEMA show.
For 2 grand you get all of this.
Then for another 170 you can get the back up camera and if you wanted for 330 you could get the hands free voice activation kit.
He said he wanted XM I think so to get that they make a USB connected adapter for 50 bucks.
This is a computer that is specially made for a car and it has the built in car audio amplifiers that any other head unit has, but at the same time it is a fully functional windows XP machine with a touch activated screen...Maybe it is just me but if I was in the market for something I would save the little bit extra and get this unit which is IMHO 10x more powerful than the other forementioned items.
