Please Help Ignition Question

My friend has a 05 Cobalt LS. She has a problem with her ignition(I think its a problem, but she didn't). She can start her car and while its running take the key out of the straight out of the ignition(While everything stays on and running, You can put it into drive and drive away without a problem). She says that all her friends that have cobalts and someone from the dealership she called says thats not an issue and it is just (in her words) a safety feature. She says that the manual that comes with the car say it can do it and is a "Safety Feature". Now am i the only one that dosen't think thats right cause mine dosen't do that. Is that NON Supercharged feature. I guess my ? is. Is that in fact a GM Safety Feature or is there a problem with her ignition?

I doubt it's supposed to be that way. I like it though. The ignition on my old Saturn wore out so I could do the same thing. Its nice to be able to leave the car running, lock it, and run into a convenience store in the winter. Of course with the Cobalt I have the key fob on a quick disconnect so I can do the same thing.

So, I doubt it's a "safety feature," my cobalt definitely doesn't do that, but I could be wrong.

I have an '06 LS and mine doesn't do that. I wish it did.

I had a topaz as my first car and I could do that, and I loved it for the same reason Bandit said. Cold winters in Pittsburgh and I could leave the car running and have the doors locked...I guess having two keys can give you that same effect but some one might be more tempted to steal it if they see keys in the car.
