Question Possibly dumb question

Please forgive me, I know NOTHING about wiring.

My husband installed my rear speakers the "old school way" by cutting the wire, twisting them together and putting electrical tape on them. After some reading, I've realized this is not a good option, and from what I'm hearing, I think it is affecting the sound quality.

I'd like to solder the wires, but I have a dilemma. The rear wires were almost too short after being cut, so they cannot be fixed as is. Is it possible to buy speaker wire at the store and solder it to the stock wire? I was not sure if this is possible since the stock wire is so darn thin!

Taking extra stock wire from the front is not an option, those were installed professionally and I'm not touching them.

Yes, you can still solder to the existing wire. I did so myself.
