problem with sound system
problem with sound system
so in my cobalt i have an indash dvd player, playstation, 2 12in mtx audio subs (package deal) 200 watts (hold over til i get better ones) i kept the stock pioneer speakers and removed the stock amp and replaced it with a differnt amp dont know the watts of the top of my head.
My problem is every once in a while ill hear not a crack but a sound that you shouldnt hear out your speakers real quick. It sounds like they lose power for a millisecond and then get it back. What can i do to stop this or what could be causing this?

its not the subs that make the noise its the speakers. whats a hpf filter? its a 4 channel amp that came with the dvd player im gonna try and find the dvd player and amp so i can get better help with it ill post it when i find it
technically you can run your stock speakers off an aftermarket amp and be fine the factory head unit has a factory curve that turns down your bass as your volume goes up so you dont blow your speakers. if you change the amp and cd player then it comes out to a flat curve. so adding an aftermarket amp for stock speakers is fine those pioneer speakers really are nice. an hpf is a high pass filter. if you look at the amp look for something that says lpf, hpf, and off. for the 4 channel your going to want to put the hpf and for the sub amp your going to want lpf. the hpf sets your amp for only mids to highes only hence why you want the 4channel to do that. the lpf is low pass meaning just bass. if you are using the factory speakers technically they may not be capable of handling the new bass that hey are now reciving.
i have a set of aftermarket pioneer speakers. I'll have to check the name when i get home from work. I thought they were better but the place i had install my dvd player and playstation told me they weren't but i guess they were just too lazy to change them out for me.
I don't have the stock head unit, i got my car rewired with the dvd player so i could adjust the bass in the speakers and the bass in the subs

sorry totally forgot you had a new head unit. as far as to much power for stock speakers. Power really doesnt destroy speakers its distortion so if theoreticly you have clean power running to a speaker it should last very well. NOW if you run crazy amounts of power to a speaker then hell ya it would blow but for the most part speakers are like car engines they tend to handle a little more then they are rated and for the most part no one on this board that i know of has found the limitations of those speakers. Personally if i changed out my car system (which will probably be in the next couple of weeks) i would do focal/audison speakers and amps, and some jl w3v3 subs with there slash series amp
i plan on changing out my sub to get a 10in w7 because that is more than enough for my car with a set of componet speakers. i also have a power converter to run my playstation. if that is on all the time without the playstation being used would that drain my power? the sound that the speakers make only happens every once in a while and its after my car has been on for a while and it seems like a power problem. i need to remount the power converter so i can shut it off when not in use
