product intrest

****Disclaimer, to CSS admin/mods im not trying to run a buissness out of this thread, just gather info to see if bringing this product to Cobalt owners would be worth the time***

to alot of us, the stock audio is not enough.. when we open the doors up to replace the speakers, there is a large speaker plate holding our speakers, making it hard to replace them

i was thinking of making us speaker plates that we could mount 6.5" speakers, now this wouldnt be the most complex peice in the world, it would still require drilling into the inside of the door panel., it would be made from fiberglass , made to be plenty strong. im not sure what kinda price i would be looking at right now but id keep it as low as i could while still making it worth my time

would their be interest in this?

I would as a later mod after I got the performance stuff taken care off. It would be in the cosmetic section. I think its a great idea. Good luck!

this is not flaming.... i think it would be a great product, but fiberglass will not be thick enough to keep some speakers from hitting the glass when its down. i ran into a similar problem. now if you have a different idea.....maybe some lexan or mdf, i think it would work out great.

thanks for the input as one person cant always think of everything

i would try out the fiberglass personally to make sure it worked and if it would work for most others (id test with my fosgate amped diamond audio 6.5's), if not id go to mdf, as far as depth i know i couldn't make a perfect product to fit everyones needs perfectly as there are so many different variables, but most 6.5's shouldnt be too deep, i figure if anyone is going deeper then mine will accomidate, they already know what there doing and dont need help really

if theres intrest ill post up specs and everyone can see if it will work for them, ill also do research to find the average depth of a 6.5 and what works in our door panel

^^What I did was cut the perfectly good speaker out of the pod it comes in. Cut the 5 or more little plastic clips off and set my new infinitys in the place of the old stock speakers. works very well.

If you ever need help LMk Ill come down and help yah

Definitely. Particularly if it fills up the entire stock speaker hole so no extra sealing is needed.

Those of you out there whose floors are getting wet when it rains is because the speaker hole is not entirely sealed when putting in aftermarket speakers......

well it will fill the entire speaker area, as for sealing, a person could easly run a bead of silicone

my "premium Pioneer" speakers had removable brackets, but the stock system didn't, although I was able to use 3 screws to mount the new 6.5" speakers in the door. The Premium system just mounted back in the adapter...So you are only going to have adapters for the lower end stereo's....Also might want to see how much the adapters from the premium system run at the chevy dealer...

Thumbs up

Do this instead! I installed my Infinity Kappa's right on the door panel and added a fiberglass pod lined with Dynamat to isolate the backwave and improve midrange clarity. I added the aluminum hood when I noticed some moisture inside the pod.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I just ran into this today. I never read any threads about the door speaker so today when got the panel off and noticed how the factory was installed I was furious.
