Proper Dash Kit and Wiring Harness

Just some quick questions about gettin' my deck in my SS...as the few install shops i've spoke to recently haven't done any cobalts yet. They're pretty much useless to me. I wan't to arm my self with all the knowledge they'll need to get my deck in. (I bought it 2 weeks before trading in my old car on my SS...I ripped it out and be damned if it sits in my basement for any longer)

...basically I'm curious to know what dash kit and wiring harness people are using.

...wiring of the sub into an aftermarket h/u is tricky, but will be easier with the pinouts posted on this forum...correct?

Related to that...what's stoppin' you from just directly wiring the sub into an amp? Is the wattage of the stock sub crap?

...also, I understand we don't have to relocate the factory head unit. As such, my airbags and chimes n' crap will still work w/o the stock h/u?

I can't think of anything else.

do a search on this site, and you will find a whole slew of information

try to be as informed as possible if youre considering modifying a 20,000 investment

hmm...i did do a search...to much in depth stereo head info...I'm not doin' it myself. I didn't get it and wanted clarification.

And I'm not trying to be an ******* either, but what ideas did I have that were wrong....I was just lookin' for some part numbers or cobalt/pioneer specific kits/harnesses. I WAS trying to be "informed as possible". If you didn't know, you didn't need to reply.

As for modifying my "investment". I 1st off don't look at any automobile as an investment cuz I'll NEVER get more than I paid for it. 2ndly it's mine to modify.

Thanks for your help.

1.) Dash Kit http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...B&CategoryID=5

2.) Pinouts https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/electronics-audio-video-49/cobalt-audio-pinouts-2823/

3.) Yes, factory chimes will still work with an aftermarket HU thanks to the GM-LAN setup

In the future do a search and read the sticky posts at the top. It would have taken about 2 minutes to find all this info.

No it won't fit in there. That whole is crap, I have that same one in my car. The even little bit of force you put on that plastic. It pops off, its easy to pop back on but it pops off just as easy.

You can see a pic of it installed in my car.
