Quick Resistor question(s)

I've seen most of you guys have used those cobalt orange colored resistors for you LED tail lights and I was curious if they get extremely hot or just warm. I have bought those square rock material ones from autozone and they melted the wires running through them!

Also, are there and led tail lights that don't need resistors?

Thanks

if you want them to flash at the proper speed then yes all of them need resistors unless they are built in

if your resistor setup is getting that hot then you need to find a way to dissipate the heat (heat sink) or look into a different resistor type or possibly value to see if that helps.
