Radar Detector
what is the max speed limit there? cuz here in albuquerque it's 60mph and albuquerque is only a 15min town, but with the speed limit were it's at it takes forever getting anywhere, maybe coming from california doesnt help
where i am its 70mph but still if you or the speed limit or keep up with a majority of the traffic you wont get caught.
Back in 2003 when I drove acorss country I had the valentine in my car. It saved me a few times..... after I was done with my road trip I sold it for 250$... Im looking into buying another one soon... works wonders if you ask me
I see your logic and it makes sense, and i do use the cruise control but if i always wanted to go the speed limit than i wouldn't have gotten an SS, i just would have got a nice regular 2.2, so do you kind of understand were i'm coming from????

...um it's called a drag strip
Hey guys, I was wondering if you can give some recommendations of radar detectors that you guys have used personally. I was thinking of the Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector? But like i said i'm wanting your personally experience with radar dectectors
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
I give it a 5 out of 5

You should buy this one. If he has the case & mount. best investment. I would buy it is I still had my other car. I hate switch I pods too.

I've got 2 tickets since I've had my radar detector as well
once was literally the FIRST day I had it and just didn't know how to read it right
second time I got nailed by laser and a detector isn't gonna help you there
i have the 8500 btw...

Try slowing down...
Anyways, the Passport 8500 x50 is awesome for the price (under $250), but if you can afford to go ***** out $400+ then the 9500i, Valentine V1 or Belltronics STI Driver are all admirable choices. Personally I'd go with the 9500i though, the GPS marking and speed sensitivity is an AWESOME feature.

Ok wait you live in albuquerque? How do you get pulled over for speeding? The only time I see cops looking for speeders are when they have a van on the side of the road. Other than that you just have to worry about the cameras.

No...but in most of Canada radar detectors are illegal and it is currently the only detector that cannot be detected with equipment available to police forces. The only places in the US that radar detectors are illegal are VA, Washington DC, and on military bases. (Also illegal in commercial vehicles, I.E. semi's)
Right I have a Bel Vector 940 and it is a great starter detector, but I'm ready to upgrade really soon. But remember, even if you have the best one in the world, it ain't gunna do **** unless you know how to use it. It honestly took me 2 months to figure out how to accurately react to it, and I still figure new tricks out all of the time. You should also research the technologies behind radar and LIDAR; it helps a lot.
Once you get one, you need to figure out the subtle differences between false and true alarms. It also really helps to recognize what LEOs (law enforcement officers) have dash mounted radars. For example, in my city, no marked units have dash mounted radars, but they have just started using a few marked units that don't have overheads and those have dash mounted radars.
Just remember, most dash mounted radars are Ka, and they can pick up rear vehicles and front vehicles.

i've only had that thing go off on false alarms, like near airports and **** and random places...i just have it off since there is no benefit
laser is the one where you get no signal until they hit you with it...and by that time they already know how fast you're going so you can't really slow down.

Honestly just look at range... I wouldn't suggest to rely on it either because if the cop is pointing at your car and you slow down, he'll get you either way.... the only time radar detectors are useful is when he's pointing at someone around, in front or behind you and your radar detector catches it and gives you time to slow down. If it's a direct hit then you're toast either way. Another thing just for future, if you do get one, a lot of things set it off like those motion sensor doors at best buy, as well as those light up road signs on highways.
I have had that problem with other radar detectors, so i definitely got to watch that (false alarms). I just want one that works for the most part well, so i can drive by the cop and flip his a** off as i drive by. LOL
I remember when I got my ticket, I got my detector about 2 months before and never had a LASER alert yet. So I was on a pretty deserted road with a LEO about 1-1.5 miles ahead. As he first started hitting me, my detector basically went like this:
BEEP (split second)..........................BEEEEEEEEP (1-2 seconds)..........BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEP (good 5 seconds - this is when his gun "locked on" to my car and actually got a reading).
Now the whole time I was like WTF! What do I do? and I barely even slowed down.

You only have a few seconds to react to a laser alert and sometimes it's impossible if the LEO is specially trained and is accurate with the gun.
