radar detector ?

before i get flamed, i know there have been a few threads posted recently about radar detectors. today i was looking at them and found 2 cobra's that had the same functions. one was 79.00 and the other was 99.99. the one that was 99.99 had a "voice alert" function and the other did not. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE VOICE FUNCTION? IS IT USEFUL?

i think the 99.99 cobra model was the 9445 or 9345...something like that

the 79.99 was either 9435 or 9335. idk exactly haha

anyways, any help would be appreciated. i've never owned a radar detector, but i know it could be useful for highway driving

voice alert is completely useless. honestly, i would stay away from cobra detectors. if you're on a budget then i understand you want to get one but i would save up and get a good radar detector.

im pretty sure the voice alert is the computer voice that just screams at you when it picks up someting. ie. "X-band detected!!! *in really annoying high pitched woman computer voice" but im just guessing

If you are on a budget there are a couple things.
1. save up for a GOOD radar detector
2. you cant afford a ticket anyway so dont speed
3. dont touch it!!
4. that was only a 6 out of 10.

You can pick up an Escort 8500 x50 for a good price if you look around. I got mine for $100 bucks, they retailed new for 300 something. Save up for a decent radar if you want one, because the cheap ones aren't always very reliable.

The only question I have about these detectors is do they really have to be displayed on the windshield?

is this a problem for you? you can have them custom installed in your vehicle for thousands of dollars if you'd like.

Don't touch Cobra or RMR... seriously...

If you cannot afford an X50, Valentine 1 (Reccommended), or an STi Driver, you cannot afford to speed.

Is there something you can do to hide it then run a wire with a sensor at the end to the dash?

It really isn't a big deal to me, just looking for alternatives.

idk to be honest. i'd just say slow down...i've already gotten two speeding tickets and if you get pulled over and they see a fuzz buster they pretty much dont give a rip if you were doing just 6 over...they'll write you one. BUT...i'd say hit up ebay for a valentine or escort. they're prett b/a.

You've only heard cobra is good because their marketing team is good. Just like how everyone and their brother thinks that FRAM isn't ****: They have a good marketing team that can make a turd seem like diamonds.

There is no such thing as "12 bands". Again, it is just marketing.

There are 3 bands of radar in use: X, K, and Ka bands. What Cobra does to get that "12 band" claim is that they lump in stuff like the rarely used Safety Alert system in as well as treat individual laser and radar guns as being an individual band.

As far as cheaper detectors go, I say go with no less than an Passport 8500 X50.

As far as selling the Cobra, throw a Type-R badge on it and see if you can find some ricer to overpay for it.

I wouldn't bother using eBay for radar detectors... you'll not only pay too much, but you cannot verify the legitimacy of the auction. I've seen USED Valentine 1's go on ebay for well over 500 bucks although you can get them from Valentine1 directly for 400 bucks NEW (350 if you call in and ask for a returned unit. Plus the ones on eBay tend to be stolen detectors.

As far as the cops seeing a detector, it pretty much almost doesn't matter anymore. Usually for speeding, if they pull you over, you're not getting a warning for it unless you're a good lookin female or the cop is just at the end of the shift and doesn't feel like doing the paperwork (Very uncommon now...).

Check with Escort on that seller. If it isn't an authorized seller by Escort, there isn't a warranty (Grey Market).

I have a Whistler that I got off of a friend a few years ago for 50 bucks. It was originally 150. I only put it up if I know I'm gonna be racing or if I'm on a road trip. Honestly, I have no clue if it really works because any time I use it there's never any cops around. lol.
