Rear Deck?????

Ok, how the hell does the rear deack come off to replace the back speakers? I was told to just pull and it'll pop off but I tried and it was bending to where it looked like it was going to break. I had the same rpoblem with my girlfriends Civic. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok....here we go......i have just recently completed a full on stereo makeover in my 06 SS/NA but i didnt have time to take pics so we just have to rely on words here. First thing you do is take out the headrests, that is pretty easy to do if you have a ratchet and a pair of eyes...lol.....under the rear deck at the back you can see 2 metal clips holding it down if you look from inside the trunk....you need to push these up so they dont grab....mine broke off but it doesnt matter now cause i redid the back deck and used cable ties to hold it down at the back.....the easiest thing to do next is pop out the 2 black plugs that you can see when you lay the seats down.....these hold the front vertical surface of the rear deck in place.....now.....i had the back seats out so i undid the seatbelts from the floor and fished them through the holes in the rear deck but you can cut the deck if you want to do it that way......the plastic panels that go up the rear window and around the side window come off really easy and i suggest taking them off because the rear deck gets caught on them when pulling it out.....if you dont want to take them out you must BEND the rear deck in the middle in order to get it out.....it wont break because its made of fibreboard but it will distort and might not look too **** hot after....now just pull the deck toward the front of the car and it will come out but you might have to wiggle it a bit.....when i did my rear deck i used 2 pieces of 2" foam i got from walmart and hot glued it to the underside of the deck.....the pieces were 18" x 24" and 2 fit just nice.....cut out holes for the speaker placement and you will be good to go....this makes it a very tight fit when you install it but is well worth it.....the headrests did not go back in my car but you can put them in if you like but the deck sits up a little high with the foam for the covers to fit back in so what i did was take the rests out of the mounting brackets and re-installed the brackets with shims to bring it up higher and it worked great......at the back i actually drilled holes in the deck right where the metal clips were and ran cable ties or zip ties through them holes.....then i tied them to a place in the trunk and sucked it down tight......There is absolutly NOOOOOOOOO rattles from my back deck at all and i am very happy with it so far.....my JL 12W7 faces forward so that might be part of the reason but even with the seats up i get no rattles at all back there.......Any questions feel free to contact me because i have done a lot of work including sound deadener from the front seats to the rear of the car including the whole rear deck top and bottom......The whole makeover took me about 30 hours of work but it sounds great and the only thing that rattles in the car is my eardrums .....Hope this helps a bit.......LATER

Highrider43, have you got any pics of your new rear deck? It sounds like you went through a lot of work.

Click on the link in my sig to see my rear deck redo.

I removed my rear seat, so I have no need for rear head rests or seatbelts. They leave nasty holes when removed, necessitating the redo.

Hey all.....to start with i used a ratchet and a good torques (star) socket to take the seat belts off the C-pillar or what ever you wanna call it.....tight as a nun but they did come out with a little sweat and cursing.......i dont have any pics of my rear deck but it looks exactly like it did stock so there isnt much point in taking pics.....i didnt alter the top of the deck any other than getting rid of the head rests......all the modification is done to the underside of it with the foam.....i will eventually end up posting pics of my finished product soon enough once i get to it....maybe this weekend......talk to ya'll later
