i have a old panasonic ghost face reciever.. on the accessory wire it has this registor (1 kohm) thing soldered on to the wire.. what exactly does this mean? why do i even need this on my receiver?
Also my book says registor but i think it's suppose to be a resistor?

its probably a 1K ohm resistor that is used to only allow that much power through it. I think that correct, if anyone knows better chime in.

yeah it should, just a typo.

 

if it is resistor then yes . if not then i have no idea. the resistor should be color coded with three stripes, if i remember correctly it should be brow then black then red and either a silver or a gold stripe depending on the % 5 or 10%

 

the reason i ask is because i think it might be damaged?? is there any way for me to replace it or do i have to buy a new deck

 

go to an electronics store like radio shack and have them test, i think they can there. You can re solder a new on and just replace it if it is damaged.

 

yes just desolder the resister or however it is connected and then replace with a new one ......... but there had to of been a reason for that to go out ........ could have been a short somewhere in the system or it could have been just a bad part, or a huge spike ........ its hard to say but if you do replace it you are going to want to do a good look at everything to make sure that nothing else looks like it is burned or touching eachother and if you do replace it and it happens again you are going to have to look deep into it and start using some testing equipment to find the culprit

 

This is a typo as stated by Chevypowered.

"ohm" is a unit of measurement for electrical resistance. One ohm is the resistance in a circuit when one volt maintains a current of one amp.

Your resistor actually is telling you that you have one thousand (K) ohms.
The Source (Radio Shack) has a replacement and you will be able to resolder.

it looks like a small blue can with a few little numbers on it.. i think it said 1023?? it has one metal clamp on each side clamping the resistor on the wire.. thanks for your help guys

 

the blue can is a capasitor not a resistor unless you have a funky ass resistor that i havent seen ......

yea it has to be a round canisiter resistor... it says ohms on it.. i found the wire harness on the panasonic parts list so i think i'm just going to order it.. 35 bucks thoughs

Actually how would you know if the resistor is actually blown or messed up?

 

Its a resistor, we use that type at work. Its the same as the color coding. 1=1 0=0 and the 2 =10to the nth/ Or simply the number of zeros and 3 is the tolerance as stated above in percentage. So its 1000 Ohms. As for why its on your reciever I have no idea, installed many, but never seen that. What is it connected too? The Power lead, acc, speaker output?

oooooo you know what it might be is a filter to stop the waves to so it doesnt have the buzz in the speakers

 

i don't have a camera or otherwise i would take a pic... well i really have no clue on what the hell it is.... it looks looks like this -----( )----- I has a the acc wire crimped on with a metal connector on one side of the wire then the acc wire is crimped on the other side as well.. Its a blue small round soda can type connector with 1023 written on it..

 

my headunit has that thing on the acc wire and it has the fuse for the deck on the battery wire... usually i always see the decks having the fuse in the deck not the wire.. my headunit is weird
