tl;dr: Get something made by DEI, and manual compatible.

get something that is "manual capable" meaning that you have to do a certain sequence of actions before you get out of the car, kind of like agreeing that your car is in neutral. I bought a Viper smart start (thanks best buy discount! ) and its nice, but it doesn't support manuals natively. That being said, I couldn't bypass my clutch for some goofy reason, and ended up that i had to take my clutch switch out. kind of sketchy, but thats why I'm the only person that drives it.

you bypass the clutch by tying in the starter wire coming off the brain to the clutch switch....you should never remove the clutch switch....

For further convenience with the manual safety procedure, I'd recommend a compustar.

Tried that, and about 5 other things to try and get the low side of the clutch switch to see the correct voltage. Every time I tried it, the car failed to start. It acted as if you were trying to start it with the clutch engaged. Did what I had to do, and it's a risk that I and only I am willing to take. I got to talking with some of the installers at my store, and they've had an issue in a customers car exactly the same as mine with a manual, and were unable to install the unit in their car. Yet, another manual cobalt they did worked perfectly. I don't know what the deal is with it, but I worked on mine start to finish for a solid 8 hours, most of that time was lurking the 12volt, calling every person involved with cars that I knew and a bunch of fruitless attempts to try and get the clutch bypassed.

Regardless, I don't know if the pcm is looking for a data signal coming through the clutch switch or not, but believe me. Coming from an electrical engineering student, I could NOT get mine to work under any circumstance.

I was in the process of rigging up a simple switch to open the clutch circuit when any gear was engaged, but I had to back burner that with all the other junk happening in my life.

Mine is a vizion thinks it's made by compustar since the remotes look the same. I have to stop, put the car in neutral while holding in the clutch and the brake, lift parking brake, take foot off clutch and then take foot off brake. The car remains running while I get out and once I close the door it locks the car sets the alarm and shuts off the car. It does not shut of the radio. If I don't follow the order exactly it will not work

lol it doesn't shut off the radio? never heard that...but yea that procedure is better than the dei one where you have to press a button to let it know you're going into manual safety mode, then exit and arm it yourself...compustar's take care of both of those steps.

anyways weird @ that clutch switch. not trying to question your intelligence at all, but what wire are you tapping into?
