Remote Start Help Please

I was told that I can not put a remote start into my cobalt because it lacks an ignition wire???? Is this true? What can I do to get one because I have noticed others on this site that say they have one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try going to another shop, it can be done and I don't think it is anything out of the ordinary.

I belive the Cobalt ignition is different from classical ignition systems. THe starter wire, rather then actually cranking the starter, just sends a signal to the PCM to 'start the car' That means you don't have to keep cranking the starter untill the car starts, you just need to pulse the wire with 12V.

If anything, this makes installing a remote starter a lot easier since you don't need to find the tach wire or rely on the voltage sensing abilities of the remote starter unit. What this means, is that you need to create a system that takes the 12V the remote start uses to crank the starter and convert it to a pulse, then send this pulse to the starter wire. I don't want to go into details, but anyone with knowledge of remote starters should be able to figure it out.

Head over to http://www.the12volt.com/ to get more information.

Yeah...u can go to besbuy and they will even install your starter in a cobalt....i have one in mine and i love it...the system works exactly like an ion, and it should be relatively easy and quick to do...however if your going to a shop that says it cant be done than dont offer up your car as a tester for them...just go bestbuy and the installers there will tell u how its done, doesnt necessarily say i would get it done there though
