Sirius Connect in 06 SS/SC?
SiriusConnect Tuner for Class-2 Bus GM Vehicles
Model#: SIR-GM1
The SiriusConnect SIR-GM1 is designed to operate on the GM Class-2 bus vehicles from 2003~2006.
That is what I want to put in my SS/SC, its from sirius directly. Anyone know if that will work?

I've got Sirius installed through an FM adapter.
I think I want one of these myself.
A lil tired of the stalk mount on my windshield
being close to my boost gauge.

I have a Siruis Starmate hooked up in my Cobalt. www.crutchfield.com has a very user friendly site that will hook you up with all the wiring needed.

I'll wait to hear how loudog3114's install goes since he already ordered it.
If it DOES work for some weird reason then I'll be ordering one fast.
Be sure to let us know loudog3114.

up through 2006 that have the BAND button on them. /crosses fingers

I got this in response to a query about using this in an 06:
"On a 2005-2006 Cobalt The plugs are different then the other Chevy Vehicles, And the plugs that come with the SIR-GM1 will not plug into a Cobalt radio, I don't know any one that make a custom harness for the SIR-GM1 to fit in a Cobalt so I would have to say at this time it won't work."

Apparently the Cobalts have an 'odd' version of the radio installed.
I got this in response to a query about using this in an 06:

Update:
So out of the box, it doesnt work. It has a little orange LED that blinks a few times and dies out. I looked at the harness that plugged into the XM and noticed there are 7 pins of 16 slots that are in use, and on the sirius harness that is meant to plug into where the old wiring went into the XM tuner there are 8, two of which go to the same spot into the sirius box. However, the 2 pins that go to the same pin on the sirius tuner end dont touch anything on the old xm tuner end. I relocated one of those two so it would touch the one free pin that was going into the xm that wasnt being touched before, and I got alot more activity out of the sirius tuner. The tuner now powers on and stays on, and blinks sometimes and at others just stays solid, seemingly alive. However the head unit still doesnt detect the sirius tuner, says "check xm". I then moved 2 more pins on the sirius harness that were to be moved for the caddy CTS, and this also did not fix the issue. Upon further research I found that chevy decided to beta test the gm-lan system in cobalts before putting it in anything else, the SIR-GM1 is for the CLASSII protocol. BUT, I found an product for IPOD/Aux integration ( http://ipodcarparts.com/chevroletgm-...ary-p-291.html )that claims to work on the GM-LAN AND GM-CLASSII Buses, if you select the correct wiring harness. This leads me to beleive that the GM-LAN is backwards compatible with the GM-CLASSII bus only if you swap some pins around... but sadly I cant find a single wiring diagram that would help me choose which pins to move where on the sirius harness to plug it in to the old xm connector, or even a wiring diagram for the SIR-GM1. Obviously at this point I have the power right... but other then that who knows. I am continuing to tool around with it, and ill keep you all updated.
So here is my impression of the factory to xm wiring diagram...
(Top with the clip, facing the pins)
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
4 - GM-LAN DATA
6 - Left Channel +
7 - Right Channel +
9 - +12v Constant
14 - Left Channel -
15 - Right Channel -
16 - Ground
now the only difference was that the connector for data was at pin 2 and 10 on the sirius harness, which is where I assume chevy put their gm-classII pin. I moved the pin on the sirius harness, but it still couldnt communicate with the head unit... so progress is more or less stalled at this point, most likely to never continue.

yea i bought the SIR- GM1 2night and the site was down so i didnt see this tread lol so i ripped my whole car appart trying to find the xm tuner and then when i finaly found it i pluged it all up and it DIDNT WORK I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW I SPENT LIKE 2 HOURS DOING THIS AND I GOT NOTHING OUT OF THIS!!!!!! FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO WANT TO TRY THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT DONT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It confirmed what I thought to be the case with the wiring... I swapped pins around on the sir-gm1 harness to match up with the pins on the old xm harness but the data version is seemingly incompatible. The SIR-GM1 uses GM-CLASSII and the head unit uses GM-LAN, i havent messed with it lately but im gonna try a little more this weekend and see if I can make something happen.

Are you hooking up a scan tool or tech2 (dealer) to have the car's computer accept the device? I was under the impression that the car must recognize it and accept it via gm-lan. Much like if you swap out radios, it will be locked until you run a vin relearn on the radio via tech2.

I asked a GM tech about this. To put it simply.. . If you add or swap and satellite radio units to you have to tell the car computer to activate and use whatever you just added and replaced.
This is part of the GMLan system where everything talks to the car's computer, and I mean everything!
So assuming you have all of the pin outs correctly, take your car to your GM service center and have them use Tech2 to have the car's computer see if it can see, connect and adapt to the new sirius module. They may say no, but just tell them to do it. And only they have access and the tools to do this. There isn't anything available for us to do this at home.
For the sake of technicality, I only see this working if there isn't much involved with the GM LAN system communicating with the unit and if the Radio Unit itself is able to interact with the satellite radio unit to change channels, receive signal, yadda yadda.

I am going to bring my car to the chevy dealer soon to try this, if it works this is 100% worth it IMO. All I did was swap a pin to make the serial data connection on the harness, and hopefully the dealer can add this device to the gmlan of my car... we shall see.
