Speedomoter wire
Speedomoter wire
A while back I asked about where to tap the speedometer wire for my Eclipse nav unit. Well it works, but not how I want. It seems when I hook the nav unit to the yellow wire under the 3rd (bottom) pcm connection, it cuts off my speedometer however it reads it on my nav unit. I was driving it around hoping the speedometer would come back during the studying phase however when it was complete it didnt. On the way home the power steering also turned off.
I unhooked the wire from my nav unit and all was well (keeping the wire I spliced intact) so there isnt a short. Anyone know how to bypass this so I can keep the Nav unit's speedometer + my car's?

However the speed is read correctly with the nav unit. And yet when I undo it from the nav unit the speedometer returns with the power steering. So no short. Im at a loss actually.
There anyway I can eliminate any current going back to the speedometer wire I tapped with some sort of diode?

Alright i checked all my wiring and such, and it seemed that even after i used a diode, the plastic box before my diode already had one. so WTF? How can anyone tap the 3rd pcm switch wire without it not working?
BTW I have an 05 SS/SC. Is there another wire I can tap?

The wire I tapped is the 3rd pcm switch from the bottom (under my CAI) and the only yellow one. It does work but not without sacrificing my speedometer and later shuts off my power steering.
Speed Sense
Okay technically you are to go to the speed sensor at one of the wheels on this vehicle. The speed sense wires are can wires therefore its a data wire and well you know what that means. If you pull the instrument cluster, there is a harness that plaugs into it, the top row I think its pin number 9, a white wire, that will give you a negative pulse speed sense. Use a multi meter and test the wire before you tap it. Put the leads on it and push the car you should get a pulse every time the wheel passes by a spot on the wheel sensor. Try that and then call me in the morning. haha, good luck
Thanks man!
although all the firewall wiring has to be undone.... grrrrr
Gonna undo it now.
fun fun!
eh, well i undid my instrument cluster and saw a pin 9 with a green wire. After testing it, it remained around 60 mph and didnt change if i accelerated but it did fluxuate between 18-75 but not in relation to my wheels or RPM.
There is however a big bundle that the instrument cluster's switch came from. however the only plugs I see are below the dash/steering wheel.

speed sense?
If that doesnt work, Ill take mine apart and find the right one. Keep in mind it should pulse ground as the wheels rotate. In fact ill take mine apart tomm and find it. I have it hooked up on my avic-z1 so Ill just see where I tapped. chris
Thanks man, this has been driving me up the wall for a month!
