Stereo won't turn on, please help!

Hi guys,

I'm new to these forums, but I just bought a used cobalt SS/SC and i love it! Although she has a couple kinks to work out. 1st....

The car came with all the wiring but no stereo; so I installed a new Sony deck, speakers and a sub etc in the car.. I had my friend help me out who is decent at hooking this all up. It worked for 2 days.. then as I was listening to a song, right before the heavy bass kicked in... the deck turned off and wont power on.

I've replaced all the fuses that google has told me.. Still nothing. Can anyone help me?!

Thanks!
-Mike

Man thats a tuff one without actually looking at it. Did you check the fuse in the back of the deck?

What your gonna have to do is take a volt meter and test your wires. Back of the deck use the black for your ground, check the yellow wire which should read 12v constant and then check the red wire which should be 12v when the ignition is on. Also check your wires at your amp. Make sure everything is hooked up right and not shorting out anywhere.

I'll give this a shot, but I'd have to go get a volt meter. Appreciate the help and quick reply!

Off to the store i shall go

If you have a Harbor Freight near by I think the volt meters are like 5 bucks and will get the job done.. If you get harbor Freight coupons too theres usually a coupon for free volt meter with purchase too.

I managed to find the problem. There was a fuse within a white case on the yellow cable and it was blown. Fixed it up, now it works! Thanks Joe!

Ahh good glad it was a easy fix. Those fuses in the back of deck and/or the decks inline fuse hardly ever blow but happens once in a great while. If it blows again I'd recommend searching and checking all your wiring before reinstalling another fuse because it's likely there is a short. But I wouldn't worry about it unless it blows a second time.

since it happened over a heavy bass load either the radio isn't getting enough power due to a poor connection or the wires aren't properly terminated so something touched I would go with the first one so double check and or redo your power ground and accessory

Or it's just to much base, deck probably had a setting that u can adjust to protect u from blowing speakers, wouldn't usually blow the fuse , so that's probably a diff issue

OP posting actually says "right before the heavy bass kicked in" not during.
