stock head unit relocate

my radio fuse continues to blow constanly so i pulled power from that fuse and relocated it to an accessory power source bc apparently there is only a constant through the head unit and i dont want it to always be on is there any way to relocate it and be able to save the time and radio stations or no?

My constant 12v for memory was hoked up in the wiring harness. I just ran the main power wire from the windshield wiper fuse (i think) in the passenger fuse box.

if the stock HU is blowing fuses what u need to do is figure out why. If its a wiring issue where the wires are stripped and touching you can replace the wires to exactly where they are at and be work well. If its not wiring then its probably the radio itself in which case it wouldnt matter how you wire it either the fuse(s) will keep popping OR the **** will catch on fire. On the slim chance thats not the case then its your BCM. but since the car still runs and functions as normal im sure its not that. and if it was i would just get an aftermarket radio and call it a day

The constant power to the radio is only to keep track of time, and other very minimal power needs. Your headunit is never 'always on'. If theres a problem with something, its not wise to just ignore and relocate, especially when in this case it can be easily fixed with head shrink or electrical tape.

Like emp said, theres either a wire short you need to hunt down, or the headunit has something wrong internally and chuck the thing off a cliff. My money is on the wiring

actually in cobalts there is no acc the constant is the only power the radio recives. GM LAN data from the bcm tells the radio to turn on and off

it shouldnt which wirign harness do you have? the module style harnesses take the data and convert it to ACC if you have one of those but a standard wire only doesnt have acc.. unless canada balts are different which is highly unlikely

I'd have to check, but when I installed my aftermarket deck, on the harness for the deck the 12v constant and acc wires went to 2 different pins on factory harness , I doubt there are 2 constant wires. I'm gonna check on that one website where I can get all the info for the car though. I'm on 09 as harness
