stock radio unit questions

so i just realised as i was making the tittle that the stock radio unit that i wanna switch becasue i want a black one instead of silver would have to come from a ss/sc because of the subwoofer .....or could i just have to unplug the old unit and find a black one from an 07 car (doesn' tmatter what model and trim level..ie..cobalt, g5 persuit etc)..and just plug and play fine?

the radios are programmed for that car so you'll prolly have to go to the dealership to get it programmed. it will lock if you put it in any other car.

haha luckly for me i had my aftermarket stereo in my truck so it was technically free....and just took the stereo from my dads other truck into my truck. Just a big switcharoo. you can get your taxes back and spend like $150 on one..? my stock one was black, hell i'd give it to you if you wanted to program them. your a hop skip and a jump from me and i might go to the march meet. lol. even for programming it would be cheap, wont take long, i think they just put a code in there or something....

hey i got a simple solution for you. Buy a black HU any kind doesnt matter. Look at both stock headunits closely and you will see they have a face plate that is removable (sorta a bitch thou) Take off the silver faceplace along with the black one and put the black one on your silver HU. Since you didnt swap radios you dont need a dealer relearn and you now have a nice looking black HU. reinstall and be happy

FYI i know this works because i did it on my GF's car.... she has an LS with my MP3 radio and her old faceplate. Matches the car perfect

the subwoofer is wired into the rear speakers, so any radio will push through the subwoofer.
