Stock subwoofer information needed

I am considering replacing the factory subwoofer with an aftermarket subwoofer and re-using the factory housing....

Does anyone know the mounting depth of the factory subwoofer?

Does anyone know the air volume for the stock enclosure....

I know I can measure them myself, but I didn't want to break the seal on the factory sub until I am sure that I will have something to replace it with....

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Been there...done that...nothing on air volume for the stock sub box exactly...just info on others constructed boxes...

However if you be so kind as to attach a thread then I will be happy to look...

stock box is like .3 cu if that and will require a shallow sub. a few members have used some smaller normal subs with crazy modification tactics thou

Thanks...I found the mounting depth, but the volume was a different matter...

I am going with an elemental designs shallow depth and I just needed to ensure that it doesn't sound like crap....

Thats their only sub that will fit the box, I tried fitting a k series but the motor is too big.. but they could probably make a spacer for you and make it work

I upgraded mine using a 10" Pioneer shallow mount. Had to make the opening a lil bigger but it fits. Even kept the stock grille on, looks factory but sounds way better.

Well .3 cu sounded a little small so we actually measured it.... The stock sub enclosure is actually .58 cu ...just something to keep in mind when exchanging subs....

How did you measure it?
Did you acount for the plastic mesh inside that cuts the airspace down?

We did a gravimetric measurement using water.... Literally filling the box with water, noting the weight and using density to calculate the volume....

Btw...the box is actually a pretty solid box...water tight...not a bad deal to keep after all

OK
It sounds like you did a indepth job.
That has to be easier than the packing peanuts, or whatever there called.

You can determine the volume with something other than water, but then you will need to incorporate a packing efficiency into you calculation along with the component's density...
