Sub / Other questions
So I seem to have $2500 I'm going to drop for a system in my car. Having a local audio/video store install everything that I choose to go with. Hoping to get a blue polyurethane box custom made but I'm not sure how I want to budget all this. Probably going to spend $600 on a dual din in dash dvd/nav and $1900 on subs / amp / accesories.
So heres where I need help on what set up to go with.
I was thinking maybe 2 JL W6's for the subs and I'm not sure what amps I want to go with. I want this thing to hit hard as hell and sound good as well. What combination would you guys recommend?
Also want to make sure we can put a dual din display in our cars. We can right?
Thankss

JL's are good subs, but can be a bit pricey I personally don't think they are worth the money. I have had some good luck with Memphis and JBL subwoofers. I like the JBL GTI and the memphis M3 subs. if your going the JL route why not a single 13" W7?

I have a JL 12W7 in my balt powered by the 500/1 JL amp.....this thing pounds pretty hard....sounds good with the JL sattelites and 300/4 amp pushing them......very clear in the mids and highs and verrrryyy deep in the lows.........Just my opinion....Later

I recommend not throwing away 2.5 grand on a fancy record player for your car. If you bought smart, you could get something nice going for around 600 and invest the rest in stocks or something. But then again, if people actually knew how to spend money, these shops wouldn't exist.

Why does everybody think that if there sub is going to pound incredibly hard their system will sound amazing? I'm not saying that the guy on this thread does, but it seems like a lot of people in general more worried about subs than anything else, like mids and highs which I think are the most important.
If I had 4 grand and some change, I would probably put Focal Utopia BE mids and highs in my car. Just because they are the most incredible speakers on the market.

Oh and if it were me I'd get two JL 10W3V3D4's and an RF T1500.1, put them in a ported box. I had 10W3V2D4's in my camaro and it had so much bass but it sounded really good, those are really good SQ subs.

hmm. why two subs... hell i wouldnt buy a sub unless it was jl. they sound amazing and hit as hard as you want. i had one jl w6 v2 d4 in my TA and it sounded incredible with a set of boston components up front. one sub is really all you need. get a newer w7 12 inch and throw a jl 1000w amp on it. ive had a setup like this in an integra (way too big of a sub for that car) and then into the yukon. fills the truck totally hits so low you wont hear it youll just feel it. and with just one sub you dont lose much trunk space it doesnt weigh too much and its plenty of boom for you. and the head unit is gonna be what really costs money. anyways stick with jl for the amp and sub its a great setup that lasts a long time

Not to hate, there is plenty of other subs that can outperform JL in every category and would save vastly on your wallet. I agree with Silver_Fox that you should get a good highs and mids set-up in check. The best bet to do is go to a local audio shop and listen to a wide variety of subs. You may find out that JL isn't the best that you can get.. I'd personally would look into Memphis, Boston acoustics, RE Audio, JBL, Fusion.. it's also going to depend a lot on the install too.

However, RE's high end is a lot more high end than JL's... I've never liked JBL but that's just me...

My utopia subs are sold alone with my mids. Also have a pair of Focals TRL tweets.

FYI the fi car audio that i recommended was started by one of the past owners of RE so a close equivalant to the XXX is the Q for a mx of 309 shipped (thats the price of the 18 and its cheaper for smaller sizes)... in the correct box thats the best deal you can find anywhere

I'm purchasing my head unit tonight. Coming out to a little over $700. Getting my quote on the system tomorrow. I'm looking to go into a whole custom system. Amps/subs/speakers/fiberglass. Hopefully they can hook me up with a good deal for $2k.

I have 2 12w3's but i think if i did it again id go with one better sub for trunk space. and dont forget your interior speakers too if yoour gonna get a loud sub and amp you need to get good speakers all around and amp them too or all you'll here is bass. Off ebay you can get a 4 channel rockford amp for about 170 shipped.

Went and got a quote. Full boston acoustic system.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JCssQYr...stic&i=065GT40
Another amp that I don't have the # for off the top of my head..
6x9's
tweeters
all that
and one of these bad boys
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JCssQYr...coustic&tp=111
Total came out a bit more than I had expected. Looking at $3750 after install and tax including the D3.
Not bad as they cut about $500 off of what it should have been. They're going to loft the floor and put amps under some glass and put some LED's in. Should look very nice and very clean. (It better be for almost 4k) Should be putting it in in about a month. I'll have links to the speakers and other amp when I get home next weekend.
Anyone have any comments about boston acoustic? I was thinking of going w/ a JL system but they said this will hit harder and sound very nice. $700 sub better sound crazy. 4" output when it hits.. damnnn
