Subwoofer Help!
ohms are a measure of electrical resistance. Basically, you'll get more power output from your amp with less resistance, but if not enough resistance is provided it will cause a problem as well. What are the specs on your amp? it should tell you what power it outputs at 2 ohms and four ohms on a single channel.
Heres the specs: 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
# Kevlar reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene rubber surround
# Cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting
# Frequency response: 25-500 Hz
# Power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)
# Peak power: 1,500 watts
Can 2 of these subs be hooked up to a 1000 watt Kicker mono amp?? and still work to there full potential?

Ohh alright..heres the specs for the amp:# ZX Series Class D Monoblock Car Amplifier
# RMS Power Rating:
* 4 ohms: 500 watts x 1 chan.
* 2 ohms: 1000 watts x 1 chan.
# Max power output: 1000 watts x 1 chan.
# MOSFET power supply
# Wired remote bass level control included
# LED power and protection indicators
# Tuned Bass EQ (0-18 dB bass boost at 40 Hz)

that should work well but i'm not sure if the resistance would be too high if it has two coils 4 ohms each....i'd ask someone like emperor how that would work out...i'd give it a shot though, power looks like it matches up well
im not sure if type R's are dual 4 ohm or single 4 ohm, but the amp your looking at appears to only be 2 ohm stable, so if you do get 2 dual 4 ohm type r's it will not be compatiable with the amp because it will be wired down to 1 ohm, but if you get 2 single 4 ohm subs then both wired together will be 2 ohms, which would be perfect for your amp.
as he posted its a dual 4. meaning the single sub would be 2 ohms
hey post some model numbers man help us out... i can assume ur talking about the 1000.1 and dual 4 type r if thats the case they dont match up. amp is too big for the sub and will blow it

That amps only good to 2 ohms
If you hook 2x4ohm DVC subs you woyld have to loop it around to run at 4 ohms, thus only getting 500 watts out of the amp
Find an amp thats 1 ohm stable or get SVC subs
Type Rs are great subs, in my opinion. I have a 10" for my current build in my Cobalt and I had a 12" in my Camaro. An amp for that sub that I've had good success with is the Alpine PDX 1.600. Throw that sub in a ported box and run that amp and you'll be a happy man.
Heres the link to the subs:

And Heres the link to the Amp:

Can the subs be wired down to 2 ohms and be compatable with the amp while working to there full potential???
