Are these speakers better than my stock pioneers?
I've had these speakers for 4 years or so. I never thought to swap them in to my cobalt bc the stock stereo is pretty decent with the factory pioneer setup but my brother wants them in his car so I figured I'd ask what you audiophiles think?
Infinity Kappa 60.7cs 6-1/2" component speaker system For 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com
I know they are older but they are 2 ohms and handle more power RMS than our factory amps are putting out.
Do you think I should pop these in my Cobalt and give him my stock speakers or just hang on to my stocks?

He bought an $1,100 96 Nissan Maxima. He wanted my Infinity Kappa's but I realized I could swap these in and they might be better than the stock Cobalt speakers. In which case I'd have my stock Cobalt Speakers available to put in his car. He has some crappy 2 way cheapos that came with the car on the back deck and I have a set of 5 1/4 Infinity Reference components I might give him for the front.
So you definitely think they'll be better or it's close? I haven't found any information on the RMS/Watt handling power of the stock speakers. I just know that they are also 2 ohm and as long as you put 2 ohm speakers in then you should be ok.

for speakers thou u really need not look at the RMS. unless you putting an amp on them ur speakers will be under powered so blowing them would be all user error. Most aftermarket radios are 13w rms, stock is less. the stock amp is 250 or 350w peak so the speakers arent going to be getting a whole ton of power anyway

Similar to what I'm running. I have kappas all around and theyre awesome. Granted almost anything is better than the "upgraded" speakers. 6x9s arent bad but the fronts are ****.
You wont regret the kappa's, I assure you that.

Be careful with those Kappa speakers, they're great speakers but need some good power to really hear their full potential. If you're going to keep them, I'd recommend a small 2 or 4 channel amp

any speaker is going to sound better with more and cleaner power (amp) stockers included really (but the whole crossover dealio throws a wrench in putting an aftermarket amp on the stock speakers)
the infinitys are an upgrade over stock regardless and would work and sound better then stock if you install them on the stock amp. They would sound even better on a PDX or whatever amp really BUT if your going to be putting in an amp u really should be getting a new HU as well.

So I just picked up an Alpine PDX-4.100 on craigslist.
Alpine PDX-4.100 4 Channel Amplifiers at Onlinecarstereo.com
and
my gf is getting me a Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD for my head unit.
Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com
I want to upgrade the bass as well. I've seen the How-To thread about replacing the stock speaker. If I put the speaker powering duties on the PDX-4.100, will the stock amp run more power to sub? Can I bridge the stock amp to the sub? Or am I better off just getting a mono amp and replacing the sub in the stock box? (obviously thats the most expensive route).
I was thinking of using about the Infinity Kappa 693.9i's for the rear.

or these which are intriguing for the price. I'm a big Infinity Kappa fan but these are half price, have a slightly better frequency response but lower db's than the Kappas.

no using the PDX for the speakers has no effect on the stock sub. ur also going to need to do an amp bypass so might as well buy a new amp and sub for the bass too. if not just adding the pioneer alone gives the stock sub more power but u have to be careful bc u can blow the amp or sub. check on that pioneer and see if it has the option for making the rear speakers subwoofer

The bottom door speakers are made out of paper and are the same ones used in the base models. Anything would be better than those things...
I have Hertz components with the stock HU and amp and they sound so good. Zero distortion ftw

I really only wanted to mount 1 amp under the rear deck, still a performance car after all. Was looking to get the PDX-5 but the PDX-4.100 was too cheap to pass up. It's going to be way too loud with 100 watts RMS x4 to Infinity Kappas to just keep the stock sub and stock amp powering it so that's out of the question.
So basically I have to just remove the stock amp and stock sub and replace them with a better shallow mount 10'' and a mono or bridged dual channel amp??
At this point ohms don't come into play right? Because the PDX-4.100 is rated at 100RMSx4 at 2 or 4 ohms.

Thanks emperor,
If you know anything about the sub setup please look at the other thread I started. I was told that the Rockford Fostgate p3 shallow mount 10 would fit right in the stock box. Was wondering if there were any alterations that would have to be made other than the connection.

ive put a kenwood excelon in the balt before but its discontinued. it did fit without any modifications thou.
personally if you want no modifications at all id go to a shop and have them test fit subs for you. just be prepared with the stocker out of the box (its bolted to the back)
