ugh harness trouble!
or u **** off ur computer and it says me no worky aaa aaaa aaaaaa. one tow, 10 hours or labor, a pcm later u say damn i shouldnt have done that. now thats worst case scenario but u gotta think before u go cutting ur car up. Either way i think my job is done here so i wont be responding to this thread anymore. Enjoy have fun and if u do it i hope u get it right and it works
Im not saying to do anything to the pcm, im just talking about the radio and a 12 volt source, you can use the same one that supplys power to the radio and just splice it to the ill wire too and that should do it.
I agree tho dont mess with the pcm or any of that stuff who know what could happen.

Why don't you buy one of the GMOS LAN adapters that have the ILL built into them and not risk damaging your car, risk vs reward, is it worth it to spend the $150 on an adapter (03 if you have a 2006, 04 if you have a 2007) or would you rather spend 10x that if you **** something up.
If an installer is telling you not to do it and you you still do then thats beyond hard headed, thats just stupid

so this is off topic, but what I'm planning is to run my L.E.D.s off the dimmer switch so I'm going to splice in to it and use that as my source. now I've been trying to decide if i should put a switch in that little glove box thing on the drives side or a fuse and if running it through that dimmer would give it the same effect as the dash and window light off during day on at night? I like the protection a fuse gives me over the convenience of a switch. Now for the second topic I put LEDs in my door handles that run of the same power lines as my window switch lights and I want the new LEDs to match up with the way they light up when I unlock my car and only turn on with the auto lights. Any ideas.
Are you referring to what im saying when you talk about messing something up? Because I dont see anyway to mess anything up that has to do with the car if anything the radio would get messed up. But since the function of the ill wire is to recieve a 12volt signal to activate the dimming function, i would only be making it do what its supposed to do.
And I already have the harness, and I have the ill wire connected, theres just no ill wire coming from the car (thats why I have to make one).
I see what your saying, and i aggree that its better to be safe than sorry but I just dint see any way to mess anything up.

Okay so i solved the probelem and its easy. All you have to do is connect the ill wire to a 12 volt source, I used the red wire that connects to the radio. Just put a switch inline so that you can control if its dimmed or not.
The switch next to the cig lighter

This is how it looks with the switch off (that is VERY bright at night)

This is how it looks with the dimmer switch on (much better)

The switch was like $4 at radio shack and all I had to do was drill a 3/4" hole in the plastic thing and you will never know it wasnt there from the factory.
One more thing, if you do this and for some reason something gets messed up its not my fault im not telling you to do it im just showing what I did.
