upgrading speakers in car, first a few question

I want to replace the speakers in my base 4 dr cobalt.

I thinking the front our 5 1/4, and 6x9 in the rear? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I also want to add maybe 1 or 2 10 inch subs in the back.

I don't want to be setting off car alarms or bring ALOT of attention to myself.

I am in my car alot, going to work and also with some army stuff I do. So I want it to be enjoyable and comfortable. already got a 7 inch motorized widescreen, dvd/cd/mp3 whatever, in the dash, but I can't really watch them while driving, but its there.

Also replacing the speakers do I need to have them on an amp? I want great sound and want to be able to turn it up once in awhile without it being crap like the base model ones.

Also, if I add the subs with the amp(s) what is a good way to set it up, I don't want it permanetly mounting in the trunk but it just seems like it would be a very bad idea to mount it to the box the subs in.

Any input is great, main concern is speaker sizes and a good name and if possible a good model of speakers to use, thanks!

I DO NOT HAVE THE PIONEER SYSTEM

The speaker sizes is good for good sound, if you can get one 12" sub for a better price then two 10" subs (which you should be able to), then just do that. I had a 12" in my cavy and it hit really nice, not enough to be ignoring to people outside, but definitely enough to get some smiles from people inside your car. Since you already have an upgraded head unit you don't have to get an amp if all you're going to do is replace the internal speakers and not get a sub. The only reason why you would need an amp is to complement a sub. I personally love pioneer, but all the big manufactors are pretty good, look in to the new square subs from kicker I believe, they are suppose to be awsome.

On a side note, if you do go with a sub, look in to some anti-vibration insulation, even if you just insulate the trunk, it will be well worth it. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

well, i own a 140 decibel Kicker 12" setup, just 1 12"
you def want to soundproof, either lay down dynamat or spray on
you will want to amp speakers if you upgrade, preamp from a deck is 50w for each speaker so unless you get crappy speakers, you will want to amp them
just get 1 12", its all you need for a sub
but all this depends on how much money you want to spend
you can mount an amp anywhere, i had mine mounted to the box bc it slid around a lot and i didnt wanan get it messed up

how much do you wanna spend
do you want a SQ setup or SPL
what music will be played most often

and my classic 2 quotes
"friends dont let friends buy sony"
"you get what you pay for"

The speakers in the cobalt are 6 1/2" in the doors and 6 x 9 on the rear deck. I was looking into replacing my speakers too.....it looks like its not gonna be too expensive. The only thing is the speakers on the rear deck are hidden under the fabric stuff - there are no grilles
So, im guessing that they will have to be replaced through the trunk. Let us know how it goes so i can do it to my base sedan.
