Exclamation Water leak almost ruined my component speakers

My passenger side speaker stopped working so I tore into the door and found this....

Name: 20150112_141230_zpsffszvecm.jpeg
Views: 209
Size: 49.5 KB

with all the panels off I hosed the door down and it leaked like this......

Any ideas how to stop this leak? Should I buy foam speaker baffles?

No car is waterproof in that area. There should be a clear plastic piece behind the speaker that directs water around it.

I had to take off the baffles because the speaker is too big. Seems like the only solution for big speakers would be To buy aftermarket baffles and change them occasionally

mind you if you do any sort of baffles you are going to loose out on sound. So you have to decide between SQ and reliability

You just threw a wrench into my "solution". Any recommendations? The leaks (both doors) are right where the mirror meets the window and the water falls right on the speakers.

They're not leaks.

Where else is water from the glass and belt molding supposed to go?

The only other option would be to get a set of baffles and cut a hole in the back. Even then thou you might get something weird with the sound. Ive seen it once but a guy made "covers" for the top of the speaker. a sort of umbrellla out of sheet metal to cover the top of the speaker so the water would hit that and drip off the side missing the speaker.

you could also move where the connectors are when you screw the speaker in

Not into the doors, just a wild idea

I turned the push terminals to face down. I may have to fab something up something like that

Install Bay VXT60 XTC 6-1/2" Round Large Frame Foam Speaker

^^^ I ordered those. The plan is to plasti-dip the baffles and cut out some holes so the speaker can push air in and out. Doing the install tomorrow hopefully they don't cut my mid bass

I couldn't find any that would fit the speakers they have a pretty big magnet structure.

Conclusion:

The above baffles did the job but I tested them before tightening everything down and they sounded like ****. The solution was a "3 x "3 square hole facing down so water could drip off without it going into the speakers and I got good sound. Plasti-dip is a no go on foam so scratch that plan.
