Weird question I'll probably catch flack for!

Look googled it and couldn't find anything, and had no idea what to search for on here, so I'll just ask. Is it possible to put my stereo in another type of car? More specifically a Mazda 3

Your stock one? It'd probably be more of a hassle than it's worth. Just buy a cheaper aftermarket one for ~$100

My plan is to get a double din for the balt, and the wifey likes my stock one. So I was thinking of just swapping hers out so she can have iPod control. Would getting a Cobalt and Mazda wiring harness and wiring them together work?

Doubt it's possible, considering you have to get our radios unlocked by the dealer even if you try to put them in another Cobalt.

Won't work.

Pretty sure PAC would have an adapter for hooking an ipod up to a OEM Mazda deck.

Ok thanks a lot you guys, it was worth a shot. I didn't know about that unlocking thing either, that's kinda dumb!

I think the only way u could do this is to get another factory harness. Snip the plugs off on ur Mazda, and solder the cobalt plugs on, to the right wires of course, which would he a pita. So definitely not worth the effort

Even then. Too many other functions run through the OEM stereo on modern cars.

Woman has a 2 and the radio is in the dash with mp3 aux input. I've been wondering myself how to get an aftermarket in there, making a panel and have everything still function.

heres the dash kit for the mazda 2
Metra Online

and heres one for the mazda 3
Metra Part # 95-7504 | Mazda Dash kit | Metra Online

putting a radio in either car isnt a problem but the stereo on the cobalt and most newer GM cars run of GM lan data. there really isnt a way to replicate this to make it turn on in another vehicle. if by some act of god you are able to do so then you would need to custom mold the radio into that dash kit as it wouldnt just "fit". That would be alot of wasted money if you were to get extremely lucky for it to work
