sealed is good for tight areas and low power
ported is good for more bass and moderate power
bandpass will give the best bang for the buck, but costs more

well if you want sound quality, the sealed is the best.
if you want a lot of bass but still sounds good, ported is the best.
if you just want pure bass, bandpass.

everybody on here has got me boned out on sealed boxes.

prefab boxes suck the most because they arent built for the sub itself... whats good for a apline type R will suck for a RE SE.

Bandpass boxes are always prefab because they are hard to build.... even harder to try and calculate so a correct bandpass box (by the way there are several different types but the one peeps see are 4th order bandpass) with the correct sub will be the loudest but have the peakest responce (sound loud as hell at 35 hz and much quieter at 40hz) even spl only vehicles dont utilize bandpass (for a reason)

ported (or vented) boxes great IMO but usually it helps to have a custom built box... Since ported boxes are tuned by the port and since each sub will sound better or worse depending on the ported freq its harder to do a prefab that sounds the best. (but since the port helps so much it will be somewhat louder then a sealed box even thou a custom box will make it exponentially louder and cleaner)

Sealed boxes are the easiest to prefab.... since the only variable there is is the box volume and sealed boxes tend to have a flat responce there is a better chance of throwing a random sub in a random box and it sounding alright
