whats the deal, retro problems...

Brand new retros made by me, brand new 55w morimoto ballasts and harness from theretrofitsource

Scuffed all paint off area on bumper support for ground on both sides. Dielectric grease on all plugs.

Lights WERE working, then started cutting out and now will not even flicker.

All fuses are good, all connections are perfect. Its an 06 so no relay in the fuse box but i do hear a click when i flip the switch on.

What. Is. The. DEAL?! Why cant i catch a break. Lol

Check your ballast? I have a lot of issues where they get corroded as hell there. What I really want to do is yank a oem system out of a car and wire that up instead

Your not running 55w in the mini's are you?

Try the ground on the drivers side with the drivers side headlight.

he does seem to have these crazy issues.

I've been having so many damn issues with my HIDs on the retros I recently made.

First harness was bad.
Second harness was bad.
One ballast then went bad.
Then yesterday I found water in the control box thingy's plug that completely corroded it. Luckily I had a spare control box from the other harness.

Out of everything, check your grounds, make sure no water is in any plug. Make sure the ballasts work. I have my ground to the fender bolts.

well i used the ground stud located behind the drivers headlight for the drivers side but i could try making a new ground there elsewhere. just seems silly at this point though.

after checking every single plug they all look brand new (as they are!) and i even added some electrical grease to all connections just to ensure it stayed that way.

is there/where is the headlight relay? i can hear a click when i flip the switch on and off but there is no relay in the fusebox

Did you check both boxes? The one in the engine bay AND the center console kick panel on passenger side in the car? I couldn't tell for sure where it is, but there should be a relay and a fuse for the lights... perhaps

OEM. but do they make OEM 55w? i dont think so

At this point your best bet is to get a multi meter and check for voltage up the line.

Why are you running 55watts? The 35watts are plently, and I'm with Emp go OEM the morimoto stuff is fine (I've never had an issue with their 35watt ballast) but OEM will fire faster and last longer.

decided to quit ******* around and ordered the oem type denso slim ballasts, new lowbeam harness and 35w bulbs. my other ballasts were 55w so perhaps i blew the bulbs? they looked ok to me but hard to tell

this should all work right? for mini h1's
Denso Slim Ballasts (AMP) - HID Ballasts from The Retrofit Source Inc
Low Beam: 9006/HB4 - Relay Harnesses from The Retrofit Source Inc
would have gone with the nicer bulbs but they are on backorder
H1: Morimoto 3Five - HID Bulbs - Components

not to jynx you hope your denso fire up with no issues. Mines didnt for some reeason. TRS said it worked no problem for them. I got them back and they act like they was never broke. Either way if you didnt get the potting. Pot it or mount it vertically, i forgot which side up to prevent water collection.

That honestly might be the problem... but I ran that for a while on my old headlights and it worked fine.

Why did you buy that harness though?

Bi-xenon: 'MotoControl 9004/9007/HB5 - Relay Harnesses from The Retrofit Source Inc

Should have been what you bought I'm pretty sure. The stock headlight harness is 9007 (that giant blue plug).

Even denso ballasts have issues. I suspect a bad relay harness. Also

Mini h1 stick with 35w. No need for 55w in anything honestly aside fogs.

Do the swapping testing to rule out bad ballasts/bulbs. Have extras u know will work.

Fender bolt seems to work best for me all the time.

U still a troll

U test the high beams shutter control? If that ain't working hey maybe check the dang fuse.

I think that's an OK checklist.

i run 35w bulbs with 55w ballast. i honestly dont think it was your ballast cuz its kinda weird for both to go at once. i think its something with your relay. first try a new ground location if that doesnt work, it may be the actual relay box on the relay

If it's a morimoto relay box, they said their older ones had a lot of issues.
