where can the stock cd player fit?

so i got an 08ss basically im gathering things for my new project this is going to include taking out the stock cd player and making it fit somewhere else (with the harness reaching it)

my first thought was the glove box would be perfect but it doesnt fit also it seems it may be tight if u cut the back out of the glove box on one side where the cd player would sit.
when u close the glove box theres more plastic about an inch or 2 behind it does anyone know what this is for if anything? and could i cut that to give me more room.

also other ideas of where it could fit would be awesome but keep it mind i need the harness to reach

as for what im doing ill post pictures when its done if i solve the issue i have now

What would you be putting in its place? I got no idea where it could fit other than where it is.

you can always do the trunk. an aftermarket CD player would be easier to "relocate"

this...trunk would be a good place also, you'd just have some killer long wires lol

if you're doing what i think you're doing....been there, done that & about to do it again but i could be totally wrong in what i think you're doing though

What r u doing? U could cut the back of the glove box out to fit it in there . I don't think trunk is good idea for stock unit, unless u like stopping ur car to turn it off or on or change stations. Don't know what all u can do with steering buttons. Could also get ride of it and get a single din stereo, be easier to fit somewhere else.

I don't think I would wanna use an aftermarket deck because I'd like to keep steering wheel controls I couldn't find a deck that had the option besides a DVD player. The deck is going where u can't see it so I don't want anything fancy.

The stock deck in the glove box would be the best but it seems if I did cut open the back it would still not close because there's they plastics behind the glove box and I'm not sure what they are for

If anyone knows what I'm talking about behind the glove box u can see/feel it when u got ur hand behind it there's plastic there would be nice to know if I can cut into it. However I don't wanna cut into the pathway for heat or something haha

You can get an after market radio and still have your steering controls. You just have to get the cord for it.

I think you are trying to add a carputer or tablet and the head unit is the amplifier?

I know I can get the cord from ebay however doesn't the harness from the aftermarket deck also need the steering controls wire? I've seen on some DVD players the wire is labeled steering controls but others don't have it

Using the stock deck would be easier and cost less but if it don't fit in the dash I'm screwed haha

No. It's an option to keep your steering wheel controls.

when i had a cavalier before PAC came out with the chime box, you had to move your headunit to the trunk to keep its functioning, lol, that was 13 years ago. The OP sounded like he had something big planned. My guess was the Carputer/tablet setup. I have something like this I am working on to get HPtuners to display on my dash full time and to have a car puter to scan my turbo setup full time.

Kenwood KDC-355U CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

if you are adding a car PC or tablet the only only reason for keeping a "cd player" is for steering wheel controls. an external amp instead is a much "cleaner" better option

ipad2: check.

ipad mini: in progress

i wouldn't use the stock radio becuase of how big & bulky it is, but thats just me... it'd def be easier for you to find a place for a smaller aftermarket one and you can still keep your steering wheel controls with an aftermarket one (like that one posted above for example)...if thats the way you're wanting to go...
