Thumbs down Why do I have whine...

OK, I have a Clarion HU going to a Kicker KQ9 equalizer then out to an Audio Control Matrix line driver. From there the signal goes to two JL Audio A2150 for the front and rear, and to an MTX TA4501 for the woofer.
With this combo I get real loud whine and hiss through the speakers, especially when I try to adjust the eq levels. So I bypassed the eq and the system sounds really good this way, no whine or hiss, really clear and strong bass. I hooked the eq back up and again really bad alt whine and hiss.
I tried grounding the eq to the chassis and got 12v from the fuse terminals. Still whine and hiss. Do you think there is a problem with the eq? Anyone have problems like this before? Right now the eq is bypassed but since I paid for it I would like to use it. Any help, anyone?

Thanks

Don't feel bad your not alone. I went nuts trying to fix mine. The headunit is grounded, both my amps are grounded very well, rca's along one side, power wire from the trunk...

Still get a little whine.

Head Unit? really? that could be causing the noise, i thought it was the eq. Maybe a mixture of both. Hmmm, well I have been eyeing an Alpine, oh man now i'm thinking, which is bad, getting stuff for my car is as bad as buying tools. When the tool truck came to my old job I was like a kid in a candy store

So what should I look for in a HU, what specs should I look at??

Thanks

the HU wont be causing the whine its def the EQ but for the 200+ ur going to spend on a real EQ as a replacement you can easily get a nice HU with a good eq and crossover settings

ok after searching for different eq's and HU I think I found my next stereo, I like the dual L/R 16 band graphic eq feature. It has what I like simplicity of the looks. Not a lot of switches and bright lights. I think this'll do

Anyone wanna buy a Kicker KQ9 EQ lol, jk I'll probably put it another car and see what happens..

Thanks

check to make sure everything is properly grounded. If you have a loose/bad ground you'll occasionally get a high pitched whine that fluctuates with the speed of your motor...
