wierd question about ohms and wattage

say you have a 100 watt RMS amp thats 1 ohm stable, you have 2 subs that combine to equal 90 RMS, but they are SVC so they can only be wired to 2 ohm, at 2 ohm the amp only puts out 75 watt RMS, wouldnt I be able to turn the gain alllll the way up on the amp since at 2 ohm its only putting out 75 wt and the subs can handle 90?

i didnt realize this until i was talking to spun last night, but i might have only been running my subs at about 1/2 power ever since i got them.

yes... but dont turn the gain all the way up because that will cause distortion

every amp can and will distort. gain isnt a volume knob and yes your probably running it at half power if your amp is 1 ohm stable and the subs are at 2 ohms. rockfords amps tend to double the power at lower ohms if its stable. example a T30001 being 3000w @ 1 ohm 2000w @ 2 ohm and 1000@ 4 ohm

not all amps double their power a lower ohms thou. good example is the current 500w lightning audio. its rated at 300w rms at 4 ohms and 500w rms at 2 ohms. about 60-70% of amps fall into this category... just slightly more then the ones that actually double the power

well depends on how you look at it. since you subs are rated a lil higher then the power rating at 2 ohms they probably can handle a lil bit of clipping. but weather or not you should do it depends mainly on what you listen to, if you can hear distortion and how high you listen to the volume
