wire gauge questions...
Ok guys, this summer i will be upgrading my sound system, for like the 3rd time!!
anyways, i plan on buying an amp thats puts out 1200 watts peak... what gauge should the amp kit contain to handle this amount of power? 8 gauge? or bigger?
also, what guage wiring should i be using to connect my subs?
thanks in advance... ps: dont know what amp im buying as of yet..

You should run 2 gauge cable.
True, like Emperor says 4 will be just enough for your 1000 rms w amplifier, but chances are since you've upgraded 3 times, there will probably be a 4th, and you'll probably want a separate amplifier for the speakers (Otherwise you'll just hear the subs). Then your 4 gauge would be insufficient.

i like these Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" Dual-Voice-Coil 4-Ohm Subwoofers....

any suggestions though? i mean i want them to hit pretty hard, and RF does make some nice subs along with kicker imo... also like sony but i want something with a little more power and "kick".... this setup is still in progress and will come together during summer time.
is it true that the higher the gauge (thicker the wire), the less my lights will dim?

cool... what kind of car? and yeah i think ima go with 0 gauge for my amp connections and probably 8 gauge for my subs?? dont know fo sho though..
assuming the copper is there then yes but watch for thick insulation on small wire
dont buy sony subs whatever you do. P2s are nice woofers IMO
too bad you wernt closer i would give u a quote on some good stuff we got at the shop (really our custom boxes make the difference)
8g for the speaker wires going to the subs? because thats insane overkill for the system your looking at.... Im one of the very few at the shop to use 8g as speaker wire and honestly even for my system its not nessicary.
well i have a few in mind..
