XM and OnStar

How hard is it to hook XM and Onstar back into an aftermarket HU?

Hmm

You can retain onstar by installing the gmos-lan-04 depending on what year of car you have. This is used for 07+ with onstar and pioneer 7 speaker. I just recently did mine and it was easy. Just read the directions. Also you will notice your chimes are alot louder as well as your blinkers.

Well

You will lose XM as well as your steering wheel controls. There's a module out there that retains your steering wheel controls, I believe it's in the FAQ. Also there's a pretty good writeup on how to use your xm antenna.

Quick question: Do you have the 08 with pioneer 7 speaker? If not I believe you use the gmos-lan-03 (Correct me if I'm wrong please.)

I thinik the 08's are the same as the 07's in which case you would need a GMOS LAN 04 to retain On Star. The steering wheel controls can be used by adding an adapter made be PAC, the exact part # is in the FAQ at the top of the section.
As for XM I think you have to buy the recievr to go woth the HU your looking to put in, I may be wrong but I don't think theres much of a way to get around it unless you can adapt the stock reciever to work with aftermarket, its in the rear deck lid.

xm will require you to get an xm module for ur aftermarket amp. Not sure if ud have to purchase a subscription or not but thats up to xm... also expect some changes with the recent buyout/merger with sirius

hmmm, im wondering if i should go through all this trouble or just get a clean sweep and run my sub through it. Seems like a **** load of work and adapters I would have to buy to keep everything working, and even then I have to make sure it all works.

XM/Sirius are not worth it anyway, there a pain in the ass, 200 channels of talk freaking radio, waste of money.
For the money your going to spend on a Clean Sweep, might as well get a whole new HU. I suggest something with a USB hook up, the sound quality is much better than CD, and its so much easier just putting music on a jump drive than it is burning CD's. I have one of those huge CD' cases, it sits in my office at home. Now I just have a hand full of jump drives that all sit neatly in the rear cup holders rather than taking up the whole back seat

Alrighty, I decided that I'm not gonna worry about xm, i will never use it that much anyway. I found the harness I would have to use for the OnStar. I was looking at the harnesses for the steering wheel mounted controls, but there is a bunch of different ones and I'm not sure which one would work on the cobalt. I searched around but I couldnt find any specific part numbers for any of them. Anyone know which exact one I will need? I have an 08 with the 7 speaker pioneer btw.

Thank you, you are the man.

I was just looking at decks and I really like the AVIC-F900BT but it isn't listed for the SWI-PS Interface you gave me a link for. Do you think it would still work for it, and they havent listed it because it's a newer model, or will it not work?
