XM to Sirius conv?

I heard a Radio DJ talking that it is possible to convert a factory XM unit to use Sirius. Anyone here of this? Or he just talking out his a**. I am following Stern to the land of Sirius and would prefer to use factory controls. And not have a another gadget cluttering the interior.

Yeah that is complete BS. Your best bet is to pick up an aftermarket HU with a Sirius adapter. The Sirius and XM use completely different systems therefore they require seperate antennas and adapter boxes.

I looked into it, nothing yet. There are companys that make a harness for the class 2 radios, but no one makes a harness for the GMLAN radios. (That I can find, if you know of one let me know )

howard stern I cant wait til hes off the air, that way my radio station will once again be good. Anyway like other people have said XM and sirius, uses 2 completely different systems, and I dont see it working on a stock headunit. Be better off buying a little sirius roadie to listen from.

I have XM at home and in my Mom's car and I like it better than Sirius. We had Sirius in our rental car this summer and found that the stations loop. It took several hours, but it did loop. (we drove non-stop from Phoenix, Arizona to Billings, Montana; then Billings to Seattle, Washington; then Seattle back to Phoenix)

Well if I could get 105.1 WTAO, I would listen to it. Its out of Carbondale and is like the Point with a little bit of KSHE (the good parts) in it.

Ok i did some emailing and this is what i came up with.

Email from sirius

Dear Joe,

Thank you for contacting SIRIUS regarding changing from XM radio to
SIRIUS radio. In order to do this you will need to have an XM ready
system. You can go to www.soundgate.com to purchase a chip suitable for
the radio brand you have. You will need to get this professionally
installed. Then you can subscribe to SIRIUS.

Sincerely,

SIRIUS Customer Care
I went to that site and found the part but I looked at the application list and our car wasn't on there. So I emailed them just to make sure.

Unfortunately, we do not offer any Sirius interfaces for Chevy Cobalt vehicles at this time.

Best Regards,

For those that are curious heres a link to the product so you can get an idea what it is
Convert from XM to Sirius
Overall I think anyone with audio experience could do this themselves. But if i was you guys i would start emailing soundgate to get this product for our cars. If you guys still have questions Link to contact info click here and ask them.

I am confused what you are trying to hook up here. Are you trying to use the XM antenna on the roof to get Sirius radio or are you trying to hook up a Sirius system to the stock radio?

I am about to get an eclipse dvd/nav but they only support sirius. I hate the thought of having to rip off that old stub and feed a wire for a new one through when its already there.

I dont think you can get WLCA down in Red Bud - I have problems getting it in Troy! I wish we could get 93X in better, that's like the Point's sister station in Springfield.

I am trying to replace the XM tuner and antenna in my stock cobalt with a sirius one.

I already tried soundgate and they don't make anything either. I suspect we are going to have to wait a bit until the aftermarket catches up with the new GMLAN interface for the radios.
