yet Another Sub question
yet Another Sub question
I have the Pioneer 7 speaker system. I had a Orion 1200D amp installed with 2 10" MTX subs. Here is my question. When I turn up the volume about 1/2 it sounds pretty good, if i go 3/4 the sub doesnt get any louder. the highs get louder, but the sub doesnt. Does this have to do with the factory HU? How could I fix this without replacing the HU? This amp should be shredding these subs but it doesnt sound much louder than the factory one. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
TIA.
TIA.
it is because of the headunit being factory. the levels are predetermined in order to preserve the life of the speakers. the only ways to fix this are A) Turn the gain up on your aftermarket amp. or B) replace the head unit.
ital is right. I have the same thing going on. been through 3 sets of subs and 2 amps...
The amp i have right now i can boost the gain up high enough to give you a headache but the lights begin to dim like crazy. so basically, using the factory unit you would either have to get a capacitor if you want to run your amp at high-max gain or replace the head unit. i've been experimenting with this for months now. BTW i am probably going to get a cap tomorrow so i'll let you know how it turns out.

what amp are you running zoomy? also how big of a cap are you getting? I have a JL 500/1 and a JL e4300, and am getting another 500/1. Right now i am running an audiobahn 1.5 farad cap, and i still get flickering..... not much but a little, Im thinking i need to run something 3-5 farads......
Im running a kenwood KAC-8152D. 550RMS @ 2ohms. Lastnight i replaced my subs with 2 Alpine 12'' and when i turn up the gain the lights dim like crazy and the amp even shut off once for about 10 seconds. so basically its not getting enough power from the battery because the subs are type S rated for 300RMS each so x2 = 600RMS when my amp is only giving 550RMS. so perfect setup, just not gettin the power it needs. and you say you already have a cap and your lights still dim? dam. i'll let you know what happens when i do it.
Im running an MCD1500 750w RMS @ 4ohms for the sub and MCA3004 75w RMS x 4 and my lights just barely dim at all when the bass is really really bangin. Im thinking about getting a cap just to get rid of it completly
I think you guys are running way too much gain on your amps... Gain does not = volume control.

Well i got my stinger cap today, going to install it tonight in the next few hours. Will let you know how it goes and the results. but yea, my lights dont dim when my amps on 1 gain, when i set it to 3 gain, slightly, when at 5, really dimming. We shall see how good this cap is
my amps have no gain turned up on them at all.... my jl goes to 15, and it is on 0. same with my other jl.... i have awesome volume control, no distortion at any volume, plus everything sounds crystal clear.....
