Rear Ended! (56k ehhhh)

Driving to class this morning... it's been raining steady since last night so I'm poking along at the speed limit when the pickup infront of me decides to try and make a left turn the wrong way down a one-way street. I see the guy put his left blinker on and slow, so I hit the brakes and lay on the horn. Well... the sound of my horn must have woken up the woman that was riding behind me and she slammed on her brakes. Alas, too little, too late. She hit me doing 25-35... I was at a dead stop. The guy in the pickup must have figured out by then that he couldn't turn there (big no turns sign in the intersection is a clue... duh) he speeds off.

As you've probably figured... my back bumper and rear lip are fubared. Adding insult to injury, she shattered my tag cover and bent the personalized plate. Looks like the exhaust and trunk are okay. But now I've got to deal with the insurance company.

So much for going to the show in Mooresville on monday.

If you were interested... she was driving a new Dodge Stratus (with 30 day tags!). The impact crushed her grille, bent both headlights and the entire radiator support up by about 3 inches, and folded the hood right down the middle. Why her airbags didn't go off I'll never know.

I've said it once... and I'll say it again I HATE CHARLOTTE DRIVERS.

And now what you all really came here for... the pics!

P.S. If any of you ever wanted to know about the little "slits" that the "tabs" on the SS/SC lip go into... there you have them... in all their glory.

Thanks for reading... I'll keep y'all posted on the repairs.

That's actually not bad at all for the speed you say she was going. Sounds like her car absorbed the brunt of the impact.

Ouch. Stoopid drivers. RIP Cobalt Rear Bumper. RIH Stratus and speed-off-guy.

You can figure out what RIH stands for

yea, my friend it looks like you got the good side of the accident. It sounds like her car took most of the damage.

I would have kicked her front bumper a few times to see if the air bags would have went off! LOL!

Sorry to hear about the accident, now be careful because 4 months after I was rear ended, I got rear ended again. Good thing is you won't get as worked up as much the second time. My first time was only 3 months after getting it.

Dont get me wrong, it sucks! And I hate to see a Cobalt injured, but it SO could have been a lot worse!

Glad you're okay!

Yeah... I'm fine...

Always remember to sit back in the seat... these seats are really supportive... I really didn't feel much of the impact at all... just felt like a slight shove in the back.

sorry to hear about the crash! thats looks to be about the same amount of damage when i got rear ended. except one big difference between our cars! MINE was 10 DAYS OLD. good luck getting the back bumper. i had to wait about 25-30 days for the new one to come in due to the lack of parts. glad to see your ok!

***UPDATE***

Well... I got the estimate from the local dealer today. $1929.06 for new rear bumper & lip, paint, and replaced muffler.

I'm definately gonna look into getting the GMPP exhaust put on instead of the stock. The stock muffler is quoted at $415... so I'll just have them bill me the difference between stock & GMPP.
