Sparco Globe-x and x-tra short B&M

Here is what I did last week. I installed my new Sparco shift knob, and shortened my B&M shifter even more.

Notice on the picture below, how I cut the original pull up place off, moved the boot down below the next rib, and use the old boot section as my pull up place. The rib slides into the bottom of the knob perfectly, thus retaining the reverse lockout. The shift is much shorter, and definately to my liking.

Damn. That looks really good. I might have to do that, when I get a new shifter that is.

That is the B&M short shifter, but it has been shortened about and extra 1.5 inches!

Is it true short shifters put more strain on the syncros? Does this really do a lot more harm?

If I come across my stock one, I'll take a look for you. It's buried in the closet at the moment.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead, but how did you put on the Sparco knob? How is it attached?

Would I also be correct in saying that when doing this, the amount you cut off the shifter arm should be the same length as the piece of the reverse pull up that you cut off?

I e-mailed TWM Performance, who makes short shifters also and they said this was not true...but it may take some getting used to when you first install. Improper shifting could lead to more strain on the syncros but I don't see why changing the rod length would at all.

That sparco shhift knob is attached by 3 set screws, then from that unit the knob is spun on.

I just installed the B&M about a half hour ago. It wasn't too bad. The instructions SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK. I spent half my time trying to get the stock knob off. See my How-To for that description. Other than that it isn't too bad.

I bought the knob from Cardomain.com. I paid $74 shipped to my door. You may be able to find it cheaper now though.

Sorry for the necro-post but I ordered both the shifter and Sparco knob from TTR yesterday and am going to do something similar to your setup. I love the way it looks, even better than the Hurst I was holding out for. From the phone conversation I had with Summit over the Hurst shifter, I wouldn't be surprised if Hurst ends up scrapping their shifter for us.

I believe Xskier is going to be ordering the same for his car. I'm going to help him shorten his just like mine, and I'll do a how-to then.
