First things first, sorry if this is the wrong thread. Secondly, sorry if i spark a huge debate. I really like the 2.0 supercharged engine, i was gonna go for an SRT-4 but after reading what you guys have done to your SS supercharged's, i changed my mind. My question is this, im torn between SS & the Redline. I like the redline because of its lightweight, cheaper than SS super <n thats with the LSD> and ugly but unique looks. I like the SS because of the insane attention gm's giving it, and very nice interior. My question to you all is this, which one did you go with, why, and do you regret at all.

This is my very first post, soon as i get my first GI Bill check ill tell you which one i bought. I hope to become a huge contributer to the forums.

 

Basically it all comes down to the interior, and I HATE the interior design on the RL, which is why I ended up with the SS/SC. GM just dropped the price on the SS with it's new pricing structure, so it's a lot closer to the same price as the RL (RL starts and 19,990 and the SS starts at $19,900). Weight shouldn't factor into it, the SS is only 58lbs heavier than the RL. (2991 vs 2933).

That's really the only difference between the two is the interior styling, they're both IDENTICAL everywhere else.

 

thanks for your input. Also noticed that the SS had a better sound system than the RL. Would anyone happen to know how much the g28 package costs, I try to build and price the SS on there website but the g28 isnt an option.

 

get the Saturn!!! center mounted gauges, ladder tach, LSD, QUAD COUPE, more rare and just as good looking as the Cobalt.

Really though it doesn't matter, they're all the same but just know that you're going to get the red headed step child treatment if you buy a Saturn period and that applies to the aftermarket as well.

 

I think the ladder tach is preety tight. But the seats only come in frigin blue. @ the Redline forums I noticed every other post someone would mention the red headed stepchild thing. Allthough, the painted rims look better than the SS/SC chrome. Im still somewhat undecided, but both of you did give me a bit to think of.....

 

try choosing the recaro option on the web site. I think this allows you to price with the LSD .

 

i had the same deal awhile back, so i test drove both of them and i found the ss was smoother and i wasn't a fan of the center gauges on the saturn

 

Went on the Saturn website and a Redline with the higher spoiler, comp package, and the sound package will cost me $22,125.00. The SS/SC will cost me $20,490.00 plus $1,500.00 for the recaro/LSD <G85> package. Im not sure if this is how much the G85 option actually costs, but I was told this was the price. So the ss/sc final price, before taxes, would be $21,990.00

 

SS/SC doesn't have chrome rims, it has painted (gunmetal) rims...the SS n/a has the chrome rims.

 

I think that the saturn has better incentives and you have better choice on the options, on the ss its kind of all or nothing. I know the employee price is better a guy I work with got his rl for 19 that listed for 23k and I got my ss for 23 and it listed for 25k.

 

Have you been able to test drive either one ? They are basically the same, so it does come down to styling IMO. The center gauges would through me off on the RL. The Cobalt price, I see is less for you, so that may help. $1500 is correct for the G85 option.

 

My SC/SS was priced 23k and i got it for 18500. It doesnt even have the perf.pack.,onstar,or xm radio. I told them i didnt want any of that stuff.

Styling. Do you like the coupe style of the balt, or the quad coupe with the rl. (Trust me; the quad coupe is awesome) And for everyone saying the centermounted gauges suck. They do......for the first few times driving. Now when i drive my brothers cavalier i HATE IT!!! Always looking down with the wheel in your face. Plus the nice thing is the DENT RESISTANT panels. No more door dings!

But its up to you. Try and put them side by side. Go test drive one and take it to the other dealership and park them side by side and choose. Thats all there is to it. Plus, you can get the rl REAL CHEAP. I dont know anyone who payed over 19 for their rl. I got mine for 16.

The reason you can get saturn's for cheap is because they are cheap cars! Everyone ive known with a saturn has had proplem out of them.

 

Yea it's all a matter of style. To me the RL and SS/SC are both great looking, but it's the interior that sold me and purchase a SS/SC. I really like the 2-tone leather and I really coudn't stand the gauges in the middle of the dash. I did take the RL for a drive, and it just seemed more cramped than the SS/SC interior wise. Also, i don't think u can get the steering wheel controls for the stereo in the RL, i could be wrong, the one I took for a test drive didn't have it. As far as price wise, when i got my SS/SC 7 months ago, I priced out both a RL and a SS/SC and the RL was about $4000 more than the SS/SC

 

hey man i bought a 2006 cobalt ss s/c with the profomace pack it cost $ 1500 for it but its worth it i work for a gm suppler and the only thing i dont have on my car is the onstar but im very happy with it i also was looking in to the neon srt4 but im all about the chevys. and the ss is lighter than the rl ive done the reseach on it. but man all three cars are bad but my personal choice was the ss. so good luck chosing ur car.

 

I own an RL and have test drove both. Suspension wise they are the same, but as far as performance and braking the RL wins hands down. But that is only because of the SS's heavy 18 inch wheels. But then again my judgement might be off because I test drove the SS when my car was already running some 16's and a 2.8 pulley.

Actually the 06's are grey like in the Cobalts. I own a Redline, but would have to say Cobalt simply for the aftermarket. What little there is, is mostly for the Cobalt. Just my opinion.

 

Cobalt SS = way more aftermarket support, better build quality.

ION Red Line = less aftermarket, more unique car inside and out.

I have seen many Cobalt SS's here and there, and only 3 or 4 rare ION RL sightings since I bought mine.

To say one is more reliable than the other holds no weight, they are the same car in different shell.

Give yourself time to decide, after you have looked at and drove both, the one you like better will become clear to you. Either way, you win.

 

Most parts that come out for the Cobalt SS/SC, come out for the ION R/L. This is because they have an almost identical engine block.

I have seen more Cobalt SS's than Ion RL's though, I really like the both of them but I dont like the interior of the RL, just my opninion.

Test drive both.

 

Here is my 2 cents......

Front end look goes to the redline.......

Instrument panel goes to the cobalt ss/sc

Body of car goes to cobalt ss/sc I like the extra doors but I prefer a two door sports car

Rear end is a wash

Interior wash they are pretty much the same seat wise

Stereo system cobalt ss/sc

Build quality cobalt ss/sc the new redlines are much better than the older ones though

Price goes to the redline they $1000 cheaper.

I never considered the saturn because i didint even know they had the SC. Besides I never paid attention to them since then (already baught my car) but when i saw the center dial I was happy with the decision I made. Oh and im a big Chevy fan. Even know GM had nothing to do with the development of the car. I tend to let it go.
