Question 08 2.0 LNF Turbo issues

Hey guys, I'm brand new to this forum but I'm just looking for help with an issue I've been having. My turbo stops producing the full 20 lbs of boost from time to time. It'll produce 5 lbs max with my foot to the floor and when normally accelerating it won't produce any at all. I thought at first this was something like an air leak but normally when I turn my car off and let it sit for a few hours it'll be back to normal which makes me feel like its some sort of sensor issue resetting itself. It happened once several months ago and was fine for a while but I've had it happen twice this month so I feel like whatever is going out is about to give. If anyone knows more about this issue than I do Id appreciate some advice.

First, build a boost leak tester and make sure you don't have a boost leak.

If you have zero check engine codes, its hard to say. From what you're explaining the problem to be it sounds like either air leak or over-boost protection.
