Do I need to retune?

I just pulled off the throttle body off of the S/C and to my dismay the adapter plate blocked about 13 mm of flow on the top. The S/C housing blocked the same amount on the bottom. Think of the throttle body being mounted 13mm out of square or off center. The actual problem is the plate is upside down in order to fit the engine in the application and I cant flip it. I just ported the adapter plate and will do the same to the blower inlet. This will be a fairly large increase in flow but I had the engine dyno tuned before this fix. The tuner installs a wide band O2 sensor for tuning and then it's removed. I dont run an O2sensor and will not install one. Do you think I need to have the engine retuned or will this kind of flow increase not affect it? Thanks for any input!

Why "won't" you run a wideband? You should at the very least run an interceptor.

by 02 sensor do you mean the one the tuner uses for tuning? (i.e., for wideband air/fuel readings) or you dont run 02 sensors at all? if not...

anyway the throttle bodys are very finicky on these cars and it doesnt take much for it to be thrown off. would reccommend getting retweaked

you only need a wideband for tuning purposes. and you only need an interceptor if you dont trust your tuner. seeing how its on 100 octane, i dont think youll need to worry aboout knock retard

look at sig. he probably doesnt want electronics on the car cause its a "sand car"

Your right I've never seen my tach past 4k and have never seen the boost gauge other than putting around. You can't drive and look at speed because your sliding on loose sand and have huge drop offs waiting to get you. The car does not have an O2 sensor and that's why I'm worried about the additional air flow. I'm glad I found some free air flow but I'm not sure if that affects the tune enough to get it re-calibrated. Thanks for the help... I guess I should be leaning toward getting it retuned now.

post pics man. this thing sounds awesome. but the stock narrowband o2 wont help or hurt at pe fueling anyways. itll only affect stoich trims.. you wont have them. but it might not be a bad idea to get tuned. seeing as how the car will never know to go in limp mode if trims are far off.

You bu bu ba bully... This dang eye pad toy computer I'm stuck with won't post pics. If anybody knows the easiest way, app or whatever to use on an Apple that would be great! I got the blower housing ported last night. I used a big cone shaped wood bit on the drill press and it came out awesome. I looked the Dremel but that would take all week.

It's a standalone ecu. It's a very common, rugged and simple GM mefi ECM from my understanding. CBM deals them with tunes and a wire harness to keep it simple for the installer. I know it's used by Mercruiser for their GM based marine engines but I'm not sure what else uses them.

It is street legal. Due to it's weight it's registered like a motorcycle or side by side. It even has full coverage insurance. The problem on the street is the quick steering, absence of front breaks and its geared extremely low. Good enough for local joy rides but after being in the dunes it's not as fun on the street. There are no jumps or monster hills to blast up.

Here is some believe it or not trivia....Take two identical cars with professional drivers. Put one on paddle tires in the sand and one on slicks on asphalt. The paddles hook up so well that the driver on the sand would win a drag race. Regardless if thats true the little things are insanely quick. After one ride in a co-workers 300hp Honda powered rail I was on Craigslist looking to buy.

If you click on the link to the photo of the group of rails you can see that they are all nice. That white car has a 650HP Aluminum LS V8. The little red dune buggy has a built to the max 2300 ci VW but it weighs under 900 lbs. We drag, drift, jump, climb and slalom. I love it and since its not only about drag racing I can beat some very nice cars. Example was a guy in Idaho last month with a used $80,000 LS7 850hp blown car. He was fast but on the off camber turns and jumps we left him in the dust. He only ran with us 30 minuts then left but hurt because he bragged befor we ran. He said he was going to pass us all when he got bored. It's all good fun and more bragging rights than competition. The elder in our group elevated me from beginner to novice as we all laughed at they royal spanking our group delivered. It's great fun.
