Manifold

Ok, this winter im putting my 2009 ss/tc sedan under the knife. Im gonna use the stock turbo or a 50 trim if I can get my hands on one but my biggest question is what manifold i should be making. I AM going to make my own manifold with and external wastegate but cant decide if a top or bottom mount is better. I hear the top mount has better spooling but idk. any insight would be appreciated guys and gals.

The real benefits and things you should be concerned with when building a manifold are as follows:

*design for spacial confinements and service-ability
*runner diameter
*runner length
*merge collector design
*optimal wastegate port placement
*correct sized wastegate for boost ran and turbo sizing.

All else is fluff

Are you looking for a log style manifold or an equal length tubular manifold?

how would it being a top or bottom mount effect spool time??? build whatever u prefer but keep those things that should be worried about up above in mind. do u want to see the turbo or do u want to see some tubing behind the engine? just make sure u take into consideration, ur oil drain placement, wastegate placement and down pipe placement.

make the manifold unequal.... like unequal length headers.

give your ss/tc a "boxer rumble" just like a subaru.... ive always wanted to try that. lol

manifold

ok. yes i would like to see the turbo. i finally got my hands on a 50 trim. i just got the flange for the head from GM Performance parts and am ordering the others now. I have heard that a top mount helps the turbo spool faster but i have also heard that it helps with tight engine compartments which ours r. o by the way, would making it unequal lenghts really give it a subaru boxer rumble? wouldnt that be kinda shitty for the spooling? my goal is fast spool, big boost, 400+ hp

yes, unequal length headers is the reason why subarus sound the way they do, has nothing to do with the engine. heres a HONDA with unequal length headers.

im not to sure about the manifold as i went with a vulcan, but charge pipe wise i hear 2.5" hot pipe and 3" cold is a good combo. i guess it all depends on the volume of air your movin tho

1 1/2"-1 5/8" if ur making it out of tubing, if ur making it out of pipe then 1 1/4" sch 10 is what u want. that what i made the cavi's out of. also the boost piping is 2.5 hot side and 3" cold side on there. if ur not looking to make stupid amounts of power then no bigger the 2.5" is what i would run.

PIping

Im aiming for 400 hp. Y is the cold side bigger? i dont under stand that? Im having a local shop bend the exhaust piping for me so in thinking the 1 5/8 is good. also, where can i find the flanges for the MAS and AIT sensors to weld into the pipe?

You might max out the maf frequencies then.

or u could just twin charge it!

overboosted........... the cold side is bigger cause thats what the owner wanted, it also matches up pretty close to the throttle body compared to 2.5" and personally i think it just looks better then if it were 2.5" piping there. theres no real benefit to doing it like that in case u were wondering.
