plugging silencer holes

alright everyone im thinking about plugging my silencer holes in my m62. im not a big fan of 2 part jb weld, or mega steel. so im thinking of getting some 16 gauge aluminum and tigging it. was wondering if anyone thinks this will hurt any bearings or seals? tigging doesnt really get that hott but aluminum conducts heat like a ****. so im worried about the heat going threwout the entire blower..

Chances are it'll warp the housing. Bad idea.

I personally would try to stay away from any sort of welding the tolerances are just too tight in there for any sort of warpage, i have my ports plugged and i used Quiksteel which is the same thing as megasteel, i have had it done for about 10k miles and have had the SC off twice since i have done it and no problems thus far and its all in one piece and still as strong as the day i did it.

just go with quiksteel (or however its spelled). Thats what everyone who has done this has used, and no one has had a failure. better yet, if one were to fail, it would never get past the laminovas into the engine. I would worry about possible warpage by welding it, since the tolerances are ridiculously tight inside these things

EDIT: lol, 3 responses that say the exact same thing in 2 minutes

FYI, my JBweld fell out. Nothing happened to the car.

Don't use JBweld.

yea, i meant no one using quiksteel had theirs fall out. there was a big push to avoid JBweld after yours (and maybe someone elses?) fell out, so everyone used quiksteel from then on, and i havent heard of any issues since

plugging the silencer holes has no effect on efficiency. it is solely for sound dampening. once plugged it will be super loud

use quicksteel or something like it, jbweld is not a good idea, because it is meant to be used as an adhesive to stick things together, as opposed to things like quicksteel which are actually meant to be used as a putty that can plug holes and repair things where the is a large gap in the material

Why are you plugging the holes?................I wouldn't.............things are designed the way they are for a reason.

been done countless times, and its made that way to keep the blower quieter per OEM request...we dont want a quiet blower :p we want it to whine like you beating its mother

thats right, if the people in the car next to me dont go deaf from the whine, then its a fail.

plugging them has no negative effect unless what you plug with interferes with the rotors(bad juju) or the material used sticks too far out to disrupt airflow. granted JBweld doesnt tend to hold but since discovered everyone is told to stay away from it. to date i havent known of quicksteel failing
