Thumbs up project turbo

hey guys i was thinkin about turboing the cobalt 2.4 but dont really know where to start. this will be a summer project mind you. I just really know what kind of things i should do or look out for when doing this. my first thoughtss were start out with an ecotec log manifold, and t3/t4 50 trim turbo, and custom made piping.... i have a friend that professionally tunes, so that should be out of the way but any other suggestions?

okay, start reading. go on here, do research. ur going with a custom build. that = custom problems. u need to read alot. what is ur power goal? where do u want to end up after this? if ur going to be entering the mid 200's (hp wise), rebuild the motor. u'll thank me. no point in puttin a turbo on, just to boost 6 psi. thats dumb. set up a power goal, and what ur aiming for, and read. stock internals handle so much before they go . ya know...get beat. lol.

ya can go at least 10psi or so without problems.. rods and pistons handle over 300 or so on..

and hahn does do it custom btw ssbalt06..

i have to get my kit custom as i cant use there tune and still want the injectors and maybe the portfueler manifold.. call hahn or email him..

remember the toast motor by gm was done on nitrous which puts a lot more pressure on the motor.. should be able to run at least 300hp without a problem.. your clutch may slip like hell or so on..

i would call hahn honestly, they are a awesome company to talk to and they can do pieced kits..

Remember hes got a 2.4. The 2.2 is only good for about 250hp, the 2.4 is good for about 400whp(proven on hahns stage 5 solstice kit). So you cant go saying "your good for 10psi" cuz psi means nothing. Its the airflow.

My suggestion to the OP. Read NJHK's Build your own turbo kit writeup and the Ecotec Turbo FAQ. Then if you have any other questions from there, then ask us. Theres a **** load of things that go into turbo'ing your car, and let me tell you, if you dont do your research your going to have a big paperweight.

dont listen to this guy....the only problem your going to have from 250-350 or maybe a little more is clutch slip...otherwise once you hit the 300-350 mark your pistons arent going to last like they would without boost...truth is its hard to put a limit on how long they will last...seeing as it depends on driving, conditions, loads, etc....best bet as suggested before is to read this:
http://www.ecotecforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35
thatl give you an idea of what your going to be getting into...at that point id advise you to pick your route...wether it be custom or a kit...if you go custom then do some searching seeing as ive covered alot of questions youl probably come up with....and trust me custom is ALOT of work...cant tell you how many hours ive logged on the comp. planning this thing...anyways keep us updated and have fun...

btw when talking about compressors in general youl hear alot of people say you cant go by psi which is true....however with a t3t4 50 trim you should be safe with 10-11psi
