Pulley question??

I was wondering if the gm stage 3 pulley would work with the stage 2 kit? Mods I currently have are GM stage 2 kit installed, ZZP 3 inch catless dp, GM header, GM full exhaust, Injen Cai, Front mount ZZP heat exchanger, ingalls torque dampner.

not sure of the size of the gm pulley but im guessing it would work, however, you would need a new tune. Depends on what the size difference is. And its a big difference you may need different fuel injectors

it mmight work if it fits on the hub...if it fits then of course u will have to get it tuned for the pulley size and boost levels

u will have to pull the SC and u need a special tool or something like a pulley puller then when u get it off the new hub presses on and u would use the bolts that came with the pulley and secure to hub.

Thanks for that, does it take a lot of pressure to press on?

the amount of force to get it pulled varies with every supercharger. A lot of people took theirs off with no problem, but there are some pullies out there that'll actually break the puller cause they just don't wanna budge. Mine broke like three different size pullers.

As far as the size of the stg 3 pulley, it's only a 76mm pulley, and the stg 2 is 77.9, so that roughly comes out to 2.99", which should be fine. But don't go any lower with those injectors or tune.

yea but gm says your fine with a stage 3 pulley on gm's stage 2 kit as long as you have a cooling mod. Need a tune if you go below that pulley size.

o wow.. to change from the stage 2 to stage 3 pulley you dont need to press anything.. all you need is the gmstage 2 pulley key. alot of people on here have it.. you have to take off the supercharger, get the key to remove the 4 bolts, and then reinstall.. no press needed as you already have the stage 2 hub.. i just changed my stage 2 pulley to a nates 2.95 and i love it.. more low end power

what he said (except you don't always have to take off the supercharger, its just easier as sometimes it will be a PITA), except I'd throw in buy another pulley. The stage 3 is like 2.99 where the stage 2 is what 3.06 or something, not a big diff.

Buy a 2.95 or 2.9 and swap it on there the same and you'll be happier

two misconceptions have been stated here:

-You don't need cooling mods if you have a pulley bigger than 2.8". I'm not saying don't get it, but it's just not necessary.

-You don't need to tune JUST for a pulley change. The only you would get a tune is if you have to change injectors. the duty cycle of the 42lbers might go up, but it'll still be within reason.

Shiiiiiiit you dont even need cooling mods when u go under a 2.8.. depends on how you drive / how the car is driven.

everybody recommends cooling mods under 2.8 due to the supercharger heat soaking...u will lose boost if u dont have these mods

yeah...but we're not talking about going lower than 2.9", so there's no necessity to get cooling mods. However, you could if you wanted, if you had the extra 200 bucks to spend and you don't have bills.

I just had my 2.9 pulley and my ZZP heat exchanger installed and i love it. The coolilng mod is def worth it. The blower is now cold as well as the coolant hoses. Huge difference.
